Apple has just released iPhone OS 3.1.2 (7D11) for iPhone and iPod Touch users, which includes number of fixes and improvements.
iPhone Dev Team has just issued a warning to users who have jailbroken or unlocked their iPhone to avoid updating your device with the latest iPhone OS.
iPhone Dev Team have issued the following warning for iPhone users:
WARNING! At 10.20AM PDT on October 8th 2009 Apple released the 3.1.2 version (7D11) of the iPhoneOS.
If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.
PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.2
There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).
iPhone Dev Team had released PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac to allow iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G users to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1 and had also recently released PwnageTool 3.1.3 to allow users who had already jailbroken their iPhone 3GS to upgrade to iPhone 3.1. PwnageTool also allowed users to preserve their iPhone’s baseband from getting updates to 05.11.07, which comes bundled with iPhone OS 3.1 so that they can unlock their iPhone.

It will be interesting to see if Geohot's jailbreak tool will work with iPhone OS 3.1.2.
iPhone Dev Team should ideally be able to release a new version of PwnageTool, which works with iPhone OS 3.1.2. ih8sn0w, one of the members of the Sn0wBreeze team porting PwnageTool to Windows has confirmed this via Twitter:
"Confirmed: 3.1.2 has the Same IVS/KEYS! Close one! :) EXTREMELY EASY TO UPDATE PWNAGETOOL."

Geohot is calling his new jailbreaking tool blackra1n. He has tweeted that iPhone OS 3.1.2 is still vulnerable and he was able to jailbreak his iPhone 3GS running iPhone OS 3.1.2.
"phew, dodged a bullet with 3.1.2...still vulnerable and blackra1n worked perfectly on my 3gs"
It looks like blackra1n won't preserve the baseband, so if you use it, you won't be able to unlock your iPhone. Thanks Dellman87 for the tip!

I've just updated my iPhone 3GS to iPhone OS 3.1.2 and I noticed that the baseband did not upgrade from 05.11.07 (baseband of iPhone OS 3.1).
My iPhone is factory unlocked, so no problem for the unlock, but will there be any jailbreak available soon for 3.1.2?
I hope that Sn0wbreeze that is due to be released soon will support iPhone OS 3.1.2.
I think it said that blackra1n works for unlock. It's not out yet, but it will be soon.
I'm hoping you meant baseband 5.11.09 or else you're very special and many devs would like to talk to you. And possibly quantum physics professors…
I hope it is OK to ask this question here. I have read many many posts and am only more confused. I an very non technical and don't understand most of what I read. Here is the scenario:
We have t-mobile service. My son bought a unlocked iphone 3g. It worked perfectly fine. Not knowing not to do it he updated his itunes. Now we cannot get it to work. Does this mean the phone is trashed? Did he just waste $400.00? Does anyone have any advice for us?
Any help (in laymans terms) is greatly appredciated.
whats firmware is he running on his iphone3g he needs at least a 3.0 firmware to run his iphone 3g on itunes 9
It sounds like when he updated his iTunes (to 9x) he updated the firmware (OS) to 3.1/3.1.2 which took away his Jailbreak (i'm assuming his iPhone wasn't a factory unlocked but an Ultrasn0w unlock. aka soft unlock)

Can you go to~ Settings/General/About and give us the Version and code in brackets?
If it says 3.0 (7A341) you should be able to re-jailbreak (full instructions available via this site)
If it says 3.1 (7C144) then your needing to wait for the official Jailbreak which should be soon. If you have a Mac, you can do the JB now (instruction again from this site)

Forgot to add, if it was unlocked with ultrasn0w, you can only use the carrier (network) sim that the phone was originally on, eg: O2 (uk) ATT, or other USofA networks
Loss of Ultrasn0w (*sn0w* is with a zero NOT an 'o') will remove 'unlock status)
If and when you re-jailbreak, do a search for the Ultrasn0w repo and follow the instructions on how to install

Stick with 3.0.1 unless you have a Mac.
3.1 will uninstall ALL your JB apps & Cydia/Icy
Wait for the 3.1.x JB software to be released, shouldn't be too long, there's a few Dev's working on different things.

FULL JB instructions are usually made public and contained within the release (or come back here as IPH usually list them as standard)
Yup, i did that…..but it worked for a /short/ while before going tits up on me. now have a 3G on 3.0.1 (JB'd) & a 3G on 3.1.2 (bog standard)

You will need to identify what version of the iphone firmware under settings it has been upgraded to. If he's updated the firmware to 3.1.2 the phone cannot be used with t-mobile until and if a hack comes out.
In the meantime give him a good telling off for messing around and his punishment is no iphone till a hack comes out. Lol had it been before ultrasn0w you may have been waiting months

Well, it seems it is a bit TOO MUCH late to read about you guys, i just downloaded the latest OS 3.1.2 and here i am with locked iphone (i'm in Lebanon- Middle east and bought my iphone from France) thus it is not originally unlocked.
However i am seeing lots of "Except you have a MAC" i do have a mac, how this could help me to restore my iphone 3G to unlock it and jailbreak it.

i have bought a used iphone 3gs and am tearing my hair out trying to work out if (or when) i will be able to use it or if i should just get rid of it.
phone was re-set with firmware 3.1 installed when i received it, (but as bought new from apple store (london uk) in july must presume have run 3.0.1 then).
it is locked to 02. i thnk i could jailbreak this with blackrain, but can i unlock it? or is there any prospect in near future of being able to unlock it?

3.1 and 3.12 CANNOT BE UNLOCKED YET, due to the base band. They can be jailbroken but nit unlocked.
BUT KEEP PRAYING, Cos MUSCLENERD said tehy will soon work a unlock for the new baseband. Till then i got a BRANDNEW iPhone 3GS sitting in my room…!

I just re-jailbroke my iphone so that i would have the 3.1.2 cos i was still running 2.2. I now have a 3.1.2 (7D11) modem firmware 02.28.00. It's jailbroken but i can't seem to unlock it with the repo666.untrasn0w.com Have i fcuked it up????

hey, if you upgraded to 3.1.2 without saving your modem firm like me, you can use fuzzland and it downgraded my 3g 3.1.2 from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08, all i have to do now is to wait for the unlock to come!!

I have updated my Iphone 3gs (32gb) with software version 3.1.2 and have just recently Jailbroken my phone with the Blackra1n software which I found at blackra1n.com
Quick steps:
1. Download Blackra1n either windows or Mac
2. run app
3. Plug in Iphone
4. click "make it rain" in Blackra1n program
5. let it run until phone resets
6. go to blackrain app on your phone & install "cydia"
7. open cydia on your phone
8. Click Manage tab at bottom
9. Sources > Edit> Add
10. http://cydia.hackulo.us
11. comes up with legal crap so click "add anyway"
12. in cydia click search tab at bottom
13. Search for Installous
14. exit cydia
15. open installous on phone & go for your life, please note "Installous is a tad slow getting its info up so be patient"

i jailbroke my 3gs with Pwnage tool which told me to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.1.2 but it upgraded my baseband to 06.04
now my iphone is jailbroken but i have tmobile and everything ive seen so far says you cannot unlock a 3GS 3.1.2 with baseband 06.04 at all. i just paid $750 for a brand new phone at ATT store now cannot use it — HELP!
I bought software from iphoneunlocking.com which claimed to unlock 3.1.2. It is software that is available free elsewhere and will not unlock 3.1.2!

Well I tried the above and all works well until i reboot phone.
Says it needs to be connected to Itunes.Itunes says its in recovery mode and can only restored.No other option.Its running 3.1.2 and was bought 3 days before Xmas on the Orange network (UK).I undestand as its from orange and may have some new boot software on it that its currently un hackable.
