Geohot Releases New Version of Popular iPhone Jailbreaking Tool – Blackra1n RC2

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS using purplera1n

iPhone hacking expert, Geohot has released a new version of blackra1n, his amazingly simple tool to jailbreak any iPhone  running iPhone OS 3.1.2.

Geohot has fixed some of the bugs from the first release in blackra1n RC2.

According to Geohot, blackra1n RC2 fixes the following issues:

  • Fixed 3G issues

  • Tethered jailbreak for 3.1 OOTB ipt 8GB and new 3GSes

  • Fixed Icy issues

He has released the updated version of blackra1n for both Windows and Mac users.

If you had problems jailbreaking your iPhone using blackra1n RC1 then you can try using the new version. If you managed to successfully jailbreak your iPhone using the earlier version then you don’t need to rerun it.

Please remember that he had issued the following warning for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users who want to unlock their iPhone:

Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team's offerings. Also blackra1n doesn't hacktivate.

So if you want to unlock your iPhone then you should use iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool 3.1.4, which allows you to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 and also preserve the baseband so you can use UltraSn0w to unlock it.

If you don’t care about unlocking then you can download blackra1n from here.

If the solutions works for you, don’t forget to drop over at the blackra1n’s website to give Geohot a donation for all his hard work.

As always, let us know how it goes in the comments.

I finally got RC2 to jailbreak my 3GS this weekend. Thank God I got my 3GS-32 before Apple updated the ROM.

Initially, I couldn't get RC2 working on my Vista 32-bit Laptop. Phone would get stuck in Recovery/DFU mode. I ended up Restoring twice thinking I had to start all over.

RC2 finally did work on my Vista 64-bit Desktop, after I shut three Services down in Task Manager (iTunes/iPod/Bonjour), and set blackra1n.exe as a normal executable (note: not in WinXP SP1 compatible mode as recommended…go figure). Shortly after clicking the "Make it Rain" button (with my iPhone still showing the Recover/DFU screen)…bam it worked. Geohot's image came up on the screen and about 2 minutes later I was running a jailbroken phone.

It took me over 4 hours due to numerous reboots, Recovery restores, and trying on two computers. But, it was well worth it. My iPhone has never had more utility as now. I've got working folders (Categories, CategoriesSB), rotating wallpaper (BossPaper, BossPaper Landscapes), Themes (Winterboard), etc.

This was my first Jailbreak experience, and it was well worth the time. I can't believe I spent most of my weekend installing/buying software through Cydia. My thanks to all. Awesome!

I have upgraded my 3GS to 3.1.4 through iTunes, and I am trying to jailbreak my iphone with Blackra1n RC2 but no success. I can see the guy's pic in my iphone but after the reboot it shows the old locked screen. BTW, I am trying it on my laptop having Windows 7 (32-bit).

Can anyone please suggest what is going wrong?

    Bundle of thanks in advance.
