Apple's Patent For 'Grab and Go' System to Make Syncing More Efficient

Apple has filed a patent that strives to make cross platform syncing more easy and quick

If you thought syncing your iPhone was easy, think again. This is because Apple is working on a system that strives to make cross-platform syncing much more simple and quicker.

Folks at AppleInsider have unearthed a patent filed by Apple in September last year where the company talks of a system called 'Grab and Go' that primarily offers a way to sync only relevant and specific content among the various Apple platforms like the iPhone, iMac, Apple TV, Apple Remote, etc.

Apple explains this with a scenario where you might be at work on your desk and are called for a meeting. At this point, you might only want to sync your work related content and might not want to waste time syncing other files.

This is just one aspect of several other features explained in the 84 page document. A few key points from the patent application are:

  • Sync personal files as well as content within specific applicatons (Eg: Recent websites visited on Safari).
  • Cloud storage allowing data to be synced with multiple devices from the web
  • Let files to be sorted by category: business, education, family, etc.
  • Dynamically select the most efficient and secure internet connection, encrypted data transfer or syncing based on proximity.
  • Maintain a "trusted" circle of devices with which to share data.

As Apple notes in its patent, the prevailing syncing techniques are bogged down by a lot of decisions that the user has to take like which data to save, where to store it, picking the effective interconnect option, etc. By letting the software to do the thinking, you may save those extra minutes. While we still do not know how and when this new technology shall be deployed, it is for certain that this can make data sharing all the more easier.

What's your take on this?
