The native camera app on the iPhone is very basic to be honest. There are a lot of iPhone apps in the App Store that let you take better pictures and those that offer a lot more functionalities not available on the native app.
However, there is nothing like doing-it-yourself to be able to take pictures on your iPhone with better zooming capacities.
Folks at Instructables.com tell us how to go about doing this. Things you need are a pickle jar lid, a few lenses scrapped from old cameras and a few other pieces of scrap. The idea is basically to fit a swiveling jar lid on the outer side of the iPhone with the help of a suction cup. By punching measured holes on the jar lid, you may be able to fit the lenses in such a way that these lenses can combine with iPhone's camera lens to magnify shots while taking pictures. Want flash? The DIY manual also teaches you how to set up a battery powered LED lamp over this carousel set-up.
The end result is a good swiveling arrangement with lenses offering different zoom capacities which you may appropriately use while taking pictures. You may also have an open hole in case you want to take pictures with your regular camera.

Come on people. It's a PHONE. I understand that we all want everything. (I sure as hell do.) Before i resort to a pickle jar lid, I will just get a really nice digital CAMERA. I love my iPhone, but I realize that no matter how cool it is, it's just a PHONE. I cant get mad that it is not the end all of all mobile devices. It's slim, trim, and plenty of fun. Most phones with better cameras are bulky and not as sexy as our iPhones. My .02

This idea could easily be sold as an accessory if it didn't look like that obviously. Now if this came as a case, I'm sure it wouldn't be laughed at so much. I have a great 12mp digital camera but hate caring it and my iPhone when I go out at night. It's bad enough trying not to loose my iPhone, I don't like having to worry about my camera too. The whole purpose of the iPhone was so you wouldn't have to carry so many things in your pocket.

There is a few cases out there that i had seen on ebay and other iphone accessory sites… which does come in a form of a case with an attached lens that you can zoom in with. LOL still looks kinda funny to me. as like someone had posted earlier? that it is still a phone.

Well I didn't notice the case but even that looks retarded. I was thinking something way slimmer and with a flash like this pickle jar idea. I would mind making my iPhone a tad bulkier if it ment not having to carry a second camera around. It would also be nice to see an app work with the accessory where the side volume buttons worked as zoom in/out buttons instead to give the user a more original feel. Silencer could be flash on/off switch and a tap anywhere on the screen to take the pics would also help.
