Geohot has released blacksn0w to unlock iPhone running iPhone OS 3.1.2 and baseband 05.11.07.
Along with blacksn0w, Geohot is also releasing sa new version of his popular and extremely simple iPhone jailbreaking tool blackra1n RC3, with hactivation support, 15 second speed improvement, Tiger+PPC support, and installation of the latest blackra1n.app.
He has provided the following details on his blog for users who have already used blackra1n to jailbreak their iPhone:
If you are a loyal blackra1n user who kept the blackra1n.app on your iPhone, run it. You will see Icy replaced by an option "ra1n". Install this to upgrade your app. After upgrading, run blackra1n.app again. You will see "sn0w". Install this, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.
If you’re planning to unlock your iPhone for the first time then he has the following instructions for you:
If you are new to the scene, just looking for an unlock, finally ready to upgrade to 3.1.2 and the accompanying baseband, willing to restore for the latest and greatest, or stuck on the "Connect to iTunes" screen, you are in luck. Jailbreaking and unlocking have never been easier. Go to blackra1n.com, click on the logo corresponding to your operating system, run the app, and click "make it ra1n". When your phone reboots, you'll see blackra1n.app. Run this, install blacksn0w, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.
He also plans to release blacksn0w via Cydia so you can install it if you have jailbroken your iPhone using PwnageTool.
If you jailbroke using pwnage or deleted your blackra1n.app, you are in luck too. Sometime later in the sn0wday, blacksn0w will be added to Cydia.
Blacksn0w will unlock iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, if you are an iPhone 2G user then Geohot has provided the following instructions:
If you are on a 2G iPhone, blacksn0w isn't an option for you. But BootNeuter is, a completely free permanent unlock for your 2G. Of course, blackra1n will work great, and even hacktivate for you.
Geohot recommends:
Clean firmware 3.1.2 and baseband 05.11.07 are recommended.
You can install blacksn0w on your iPhone to unlock it using blackra1n. You can download the latest version of blackra1n from this link.
Update:
Geohot has also release blacksn0w via Cydia. To install it on your iPhone, add blackra1n.com as repository.
Please remember hacking your iPhone could void its warranty. So please proceed with caution and at your own risk. It is always a good idea to take a backup of your iPhone before you hack it, refer to this post for more details.

Hey guys i do this thing for two 3gs iphones and its worked for me test it Maybe work for u restore your phone with 3.1.2 again and just jailbraik it and then fully sync it with your itunes and after sync restart your phone then. Install blacksn0w restart your phone it will work .just worked for my phones

someone help please, i installed it on my iphone 3g. the phone gets jailbroken but there is still the "no sim installed" message. phone searches for network but it gives me the same message. anyone tell me where i am going wrong

You need to be on the latest version of the software 3.1.2 in order to use this tool.

I've J/B my 3GS phone on 3.1.2 but by mistake in Settings tab, I've selected to delete all the data & settings, now my phone is not starting up. I get just the apple logo on the main screen, don't even go to recovery mode.

Yes, this is the opportunity to upgrade to the latest available update and unlock the phone.
Use itunes to Restore version 3.1.2 and firmware 05.11.07.
Then jailbreak and unlock

go to setting>General scroll all the way down to Rest tab rest then you'll have another page comes up tab on rest network settings, restart your iphone and you are in business again,

Fast and easy but has too many bugs. I regret not waiting for Dev-Team. I can't purchase app from App store, YouTube doesn't connect and can't send MMS anymore. Does anyone have a Solution to these bugs??? I don't recommend this Unlock to know one, or at least till they fix all the bugs!!
Alright, i did find out how to get youyube working again. Go to cydia, add the following source: cydia.iphoneil.net then install push fix. Youtube should work right after ya dig? Enjoy!

For those with updated iPhones but old firmware xx.xx.08 >>> I have a 3g 3.1.2 with an old firmware xx.xx.08, I downgraded it to 3.0.1 and then updated it to 3.1.2 with new firmware xx.xx.07 via iTunes. Since many complained about network connection I did reset it right away and my iPhone works great.
I was a little nervous in the process but in the end it was worth it.

Ok, I already had my 3GS with version 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n. I deleted the installer(not sure why I did that). I downloaded blackra1n again just a few minutes ago, but it won't show up on my phone now. How do I get it back?
i just installed it and unlocked my phone to tmobile and now all the apps i have crash (fail to load, and return to the springboard). also my firmware is on 3.1.2 and baseband is the 05.11.07 just as recommended, so if anyone knows how to fix this i'd appreciate it?

okay it worked fine up until step 6 which is when i got the phone unlocked and then clicked on the blacksnow application but my phone is getting no signals whatsoever .. ive tried different things but i still cant get any signals .. and because im getting no signals, i cant connect to the internet. please help
