Orange Announces Pricing Plans For November 10 UK iPhone Launch
The exclusivity of O2 in the UK iPhone market comes to an end on November 10 when the iPhone will start being available on the Orange network as well.
In a recent media release, Orange has revealed the pricing plans for the upcoming launch.
There are three standard pricing plans on offer. The 'Pay Monthly' plan starts at a minimum of £30. Customers get the iPhone 3GS handset for free if they choose to go for one of the £45 and upward plans and the 3G handset for free from the £30 plan. The contract period in both the cases are set at two years. Orange has also announced a "traveller" offer for additional roaming call and data allowance at £125 per month.
The 'Pay As You Go' customers get the iPhone 3G at £333 with an additional upfront 'topping-up' of £50. The SME plans come at an additional monthly tariff of £50 with other offers similar to the 'Pay Monthly' plan. All Orange customers also get free access to BT OpenZone Wi-Fi network for a minimum period of one year. Some heartburn for the American AT&T customers here. Orange is also offering additional tethering options that start at £5 per month.
Overall, there are no real surprises. The pricing plan from Orange is pretty much similar to what is already on offer with O2. A Pay monthly plan on both the carriers with 24 month contract and free 3GS handset starts at £45 and while the PAYG plan for iPhone 3G starts at £343 on O2, it is available at a marginally lesser £333 on Orange though there are minor variations in the tariffs.
We would like to know from our UK readers how they feel about Orange's pricing plans. Which one of the two carriers do you think is a better bet? Please do tell us in the comments.
