iPhone Users On O2 Suffering Long Data Access Failure [Updated]

Quite a few iPhone users in UK are experiencing problems accessing internet on the O2 network. 

Telegraph is reporting that most of the one million iPhone users on the O2 network in the country are being shown the message "Could not activate cellular data network" when they try accessing internet or a few apps on their iPhone.

O2 subscribers have been facing the issue since Saturday and with the problem yet to be fixed, it is possibly the longest data outage suffered by O2 subscribers in recent times. Also, this issue coming as it is during the holiday shopping season can significantly affect small businesses harping on customers shopping with their iPhones.

The issue was acknowledged as early as Sunday afternoon when the company promised to get the service back by the end of the day, but with the problem persisting even after a day since then, the frustration among the users has now begun to show. O2's official Twitter account is being inundated with users complaining about the data failure. 

Speaking about this earlier, an O2 spokesperson told Telegraph:

"We are aware of an issue currently impacting data access for some of our customers. We have identified a fault with the allocation of IP addresses and are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. We apologise to any affected customers."

Update:

O2 says the problem is partly fixed. The company's tweet reads:

"Quick data services update: the system fault has been fixed and internet connections are gradually being restored.

MMS and Visual Voicemail remain affected – we’re working on these as a priority."
