Live Video Broadcasting Comes to iPhone With UStream Live Broadcaster iPhone App

Live Broadcasting comes to iPhone with UStream

Earlier this month, we had reviewed an iPhone app called 'Knocking' that brought live streaming to the iPhone.

However, the constraint in that case was that the iPhone app only allowed you to stream video from one iPhone to the other.

Now, get ready for live broadcasting, courtesy UStream.

The company has now released a UStream Live Broadcaster app that lets iPhone users to broadcast video directly from their iPhone to the web. The iPhone app gives you the option to both stream live as well as share the video as a recording for viewing later. The app works via both 3G and Wi-Fi.

There are some interesting social elements in the iPhone app that is likely to make it all the more viral. For example, you may choose to tweet out to your Twitter followers when you go live, share the video on Facebook and Youtube, initiate a Yes/No poll, etc. Other features include the ability to change video resolution, view chat messages, mute the video and see viewer count.

Live streaming has been a much awaited feature on the iPhone ever since iPhone 3GS with video capability was launched in June of this year. However, thanks to  AT&T's reluctance to open up their networks for video streaming, the feature had remained in the pipeline for far too long.

Nevertheless, as always, it is better late than never and we only hope the popularity of the iPhone app does not pull down the already congested AT&T network. The iPhone app is available for free on the iPhone App store. Do let us know your views on the iPhone app.

Does this definitely work for the iPhone 3G? I mean can it definitely record and stream video on the 3G model? I have a 3G, not a 3GS. I'm still on OS 3.0 due to tethering, but I'm thinking about updating to the newest OS because it says I have to in order to install this app. Please let me know if it definitely works for iPhone 3G before I kill my tethering. Thanks!!!
