ProSwitcher: Multitasking iPhone App for Jailbroken iPhones is Now Available

ProSwitcher Multitasking app for jailbroken iPhones now in public beta

Remember ProSwitcher? We had written a few days back about this upcoming multitasking app for jailbroken iPhone users that was not only free and open-sourced, but was also better than its competitor Multifl0w; which sold at Cydia for $5, in a lot of ways.

Good news is that ProSwitcher is now out in public beta.

Early reviews have been positive about the iPhone app. One of the best things about this new iPhone app is its seamless integration with the look and feel of the iPhone's native features so much so that it gives no indication of it being a third party application.

That being said, the iPhone app is also performance-wise superior to Multifl0w. As we had already noted in our earlier article on ProSwitcher, this app consumes way less memory than Multifl0w which can be a big plus for a free app. However, Multifl0w could play catch-up on this aspect as Aaron Ash, the developer of Multifl0w has indicated that an update that will help in a "HUGE memory leak fix in multif0w" is already on the way.

However, besides the memory issue, ProSwitcher still looks like a clear winner. The iPhone app offers a lot of customizable features. For instance, you can choose how the background shall appear, how the various applications are displayed, how to close the applications, etc. This apart, there are more than ten ways to activate apps alone.

If you are interested to give the public beta version a try, you need to add this repository http://booleanmagic.com/repo to install the iPhone app via Cydia. If you have already tried Multifl0w, we would love to know your views about ProSwitcher as compared to Multifl0w.

    First Post!!!

  2. Chad says:

It is way superior to multiflow!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Gerbil Slayer says:

Memory wise, how does it compare to Kirikae. I have a 3G and every MB of memory counts.

  4. iLauncher says:

how do u add a shortcut to invoke proswitcher, like double-tap home button (like in multifl0w) and where r the options of proswitcher. when i tap its icon, it actually launches the multitasking of the app by showing me the various backgrounded apps.

  5. Daniel says:

do you need to have backgrounder installed to use proswitcher?

  6. Rcas says:

Open the settings app and scroll down

  7. Rcas says:

I can only get native apps to work with this… no app store apps or cydia apps are staying open when I start proswitcher

  8. Cskeller07 says:

Same here, is there a tutorial or guide for how to use this?

  9. mminoo says:

Clear winner, no comparison. hands down more superior. Thank you to developer. hope you could keep it free.

  10. eelllliioott says:

yes, you do have to backgrounder installed

in the setting menu you can select pro switcher and choose lots of methods for activation.

seems to be quite sick with the memory, about the same as kinkae or perhaps less. Give it a go….(3gs)

    Defiantly better than mutiflow!

  11. kdi says:

Native, App Store and jb apps showing up fine for me on 3G.

  12. iphonejeff says:

works pretty good on my 3g, I use it with backgrounder and "swipe" between my open apps nicely.

at first I uninstalled background as I thought this app would "multitask" or background the apps ,but it just lets you select between then.

no more badges to look for!

  13. Liam says:

this is loads better then multiflow and its free its like christmas come early :)

  14. QuickSilver says:

    FREEKING AMAZING!

  16. at&tHater says:

  17. jSayz says:

    Really like ProSwitcher!!

A big fan of the multifl0w and iPhone multitasking. It was the primary reason for freeing the iPhone. After using ProSwitcher I have to say I am pretty impress with the results. The program is very smooth and and well implemented into the springboard. Good Job!

  18. Mike S. says:

This is the way multi-tasking was meant to be! So smooth that, if you didn't know better, you'd think the iPhone came this way! I love the way you can flick the running apps up to close them (like the Pre).

  19. onetimecomment says:

    Works like a charm!!!

    Much Much better than Multifl0w.

Multifl0w was crashing for me all the time.

  20. Mackie says:

Work like a Pro. Apple can learn few things from this app

  21. Irha says:

I think the previous blog here mentioned that proswitcher is different from multifl0w in the sense that it has built-in support for backgrounder.

  22. Dean says:

    for me multiflow.

  23. Shawn says:

awesome app. Pure genius. I will be donating on this one. I'm already finding it so useful and convenient. Thank you guys.

  24. I installed proswitcher, but there was always a little icon on the bottom of my phone icon. I opend and closed it several times, and it would disappear for a second and then come right back. Is this normal? I uninstalled until I find out for sure what going on with it…. any answers would be appreciated.

  25. DarthRyo says:

Well I have been using Multiflow for a while and often have memory leak issues (even the last version)… always ended up close to 40mb left and needed to restart SB.
So I'll see if ProSwitcher will do better than that.

Anyway, after a first test I must say ProSwitcher is indeed better than Multiflow (it looks approximately the same in fact but the feeling is better…)

So I'll see about the memory it uses.

  26. Josh says:

I totally agree with everything DarthRyo has to say.

  27. Dean says:

darthryo you are josh come on man!

  28. Jabb says:

it is normal, the little icon is there, because the application is running in the backgroud. Can you imagine the iPhone without running the default phone app? :-) If you kill it manualy, the iPhone OS will run it again 'immediately'. For the small icon backgrounder is responsible and You can disabled it. Read the manual …

  29. jdb says:

I think you have to have backgrounder installed first. And make sure the activation methods are not the same. That's the only way it worked for me, and I love this app! It's amazing! Why couldn't the iPhone come this way? It's irritating that I need to jailbreak my phone so I can use it with more efficiency.

  30. va says:

Very nice. Interesting that a browser window cannot be included in the tasks list.

  31. demothenes says:

Yep, works awesome with Cydia Apps, Jailbroken Apps, and App Store Apps. How ever….anyone notice the heavy surge of battery usage? And only have like 3 apps loaded at a time…

  32. John says:

    Awesome!!!
This app is here to stay!

  33. moe says:

im only getting mail and phone i cant multi task other things

  34. Brinky says:

I am loving ProSwitcher. If nothing else the way to activate it, home button press at the springboard, is the best.

  35. Al says:

Cannot load the repo site in cydia. Any suggestions

  36. dki says:

Can't say that I have noticed my battery being drained any faster than it already is!

  37. Alex says:

I am using multiflow and proswitcher for less than a week. multiflow is nice, reliable and can close running apps within multiflow. Proswitcher, still in early beta is making a good show. The open app screen page is bigger, page corners can be modified, close a running app is as easy as sliding the page up till it disappears. (Thats nice). Moreover, proswitcher allows docked apps to stay accessible. 2 main drawbacks with proswitcher though is system crash when I use free memory app. will invocation method be thru activating icon or implemented into SBsettings.
I will look forward to see how these issues will be resolved.

  38. mark says:

Excellent. I am blown away by the fluency of this application. A big thank you to the developer, hope to see more apps from you in the future.

  39. HCWHunter says:

Read the Global, Control, and Documentation sections of Backgrounder, with their help sceens too, first to see how to run apps in the background. Proswitcher just activates and switches backgrounded apps based on the criteria you set in the iPhone settings.

    HW

  40. DarthRyo says:

err, not really no… I don't have that kind of personnal satisfaction needs :P
    seriously lol

  41. Jorge says:

I can't find it on cydia even after installing the repo does not show anything on the list , I saw two days ago and didn't install it , now it's gone :(

  42. Jon says:

No need, btw, to add this repo. It seems it's on the BigBoss repo as well. I just installed it, and I'm finally glad that the phone I bought had to be jail-broken! ;-)

    -Jon

  43. ARMorr says:

Great app but now my springboard will not shut down when iddle? Any suggestions??

    Thanks!

  44. mosh69 says:

Does anyone know how to get a tutorial on the settings??? I've tried playing with them and don't notice any change with most.

  45. jojojblue@yahoo.com says:

I have ios 4 and cannot install proswitcher. Is there another app similar to it besides mutliflow?

  46. iphone hacks says:

wow people are still using ProSwitcher. Rediculous.
