Facebook has announced that its iPhone app version 3.1.2 is now available on the App Store.
This comes just days after the company released a new version that brought push notifications and address book contacts syncing to the iPhone app. But quite a few of our readers had posted comments last week complaining about the mess that the address book syncing had created.
To quote one of our readers Jon:
"Syncing is horribly implemented. There's no feature to manually select which contacts/friends you would like synced. The app itself automatically chooses which facebook user, not friend, is synced to each contact in your iPhone contact list. The reason I say "facebook user" and not "facebook friend" is because it will sync random facebook users to iPhone contacts with the same name; even if you aren't friends with said random facebook user. Sometimes, there doesn't even need to be common name! It synced a phone contact I have listed as "Susie Accident in Alhambra" to someone on Facebook named "Ehl. Edizon" from some Spanish speaking country who I've never met, I'm not even facebook friends withm and don't even have any mutual friends with!"
With the new version, Facebook claims to have fixed a few crashes, rectified the incorrect matching in address book syncing as well as corrected the bug causing incorrect matches for contacts with same name. Users can download the iPhone app by clicking here (iTunes Link).

Not me, that last update really screwed up my contacts up, I'll wait for the bug that fixes that bug to be updated.
still cannot upload pics from iphone cameral roll to FB with this vers. very poor.
Working fine now on 3G. All bugs sorted, and everything works (syncs, photo uploading, commenting etc).
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. Nice post on interesting topic.
The app is working great now, all bugs are removed but now iPhone's facebook app users want bit more functionality added to it.
No update to this app has fixed my problem. It has all of my iPhone contacts matched up with their facebook profiles just fine but it has yet to sync even one single photo from their FB page over to my iPhone contacts list. 3G 3.1.2 jailbroken.
This update did NOT work for me. It did the following:
- Matched my contacts to people who were not my Facebook Friends, creating links in the URL field and pictures
- Matched my contacts to people who were not only not my Facebook Friends, but were complete strangers, often without completely dissimilar names and no reasonable connection between the two people.
My only choice was to press "Delete Data", as even after I cleaned it up manually, the bad data came back the next time I opened Facebook for iPhone.
Badly done.

I am getting and error that I have 83 friends on my iphone app and on my computer only 21 are showing up….any ideas?
Ahhh I so did not mean to put my email in there….
Gets stuck on the picture downloading. Logging off for a fresh start only got removed the pictures I've already got right. Big mess.
Facebook won't even load for me after this update
This version 3.1.2 is glitchy as hell on my 3GS. Freezes when downloading friends’ photos, freezes when uploading mine. Crashes when updating news feed and posts. Closes itself for no apparent reason. Messages not sending. It seems to get worse with each update. None of this synching nonsense though.
