Apple Not Building Its Own Search Engine; Gets $100 Million a Year From Google For iPhone Search Deal

Apple to replace Google with Bing

Sillicon Alley Insider reports that according to their source, the rumor that Apple is developing its own search engine are not true.

Their source has also told the reason Apple might not want to build its own search engine is because it’s getting over $100 million a year from Google for the iPhone Search deal.

Silicon Alley Insider reports:

“Our source tells us "there's too many options" for search on the market, so there's no reason for Apple to build its own search engine.

Another reason Apple might not want to build its own search engine: It's getting over $100 million a year from Google in its revenue share deal, according to our source.

For Apple, that's not a lot of money. But, it's enough that it doesn't make sense for Apple to put considerable resources towards building its own Internet search engine. And, if Apple wanted more money or options, there's Microsoft -- with Bing and a big checkbook.”

According to the report last month, Apple was in talks with Microsoft over a search deal that could see Apple replacing Google with Bing as the default search engine on the iPhone as Apple sees Google as its primary rival and is drawing on support from Microsoft in order to challenge Mountain View. In the source's words, Microsoft is the "pawn" in the battle between Apple and Google.

Apple is an enviable position thanks to the huge success of the iPhone and such rumors and speculations about it doing a deal with Microsoft (which isn't ruled out) or building its own search engine, will ultimately help Apple to get a better deal, whenever the iPhone search deal comes up for renewal.

What do you think?

I believe no matter what apple will be developing it's own search engine behind locked doors. Google will kill them with it's killer serch engine and There smart phones very soon.

  2. jdb says:

Google will win in the search engine fight. Never the phone fight. iPhones have not even come close to being replicated. Remember the instinct? Sucked. Palm Pre? Sucked. Google's droid may be a good smart phone, but it'll never be an iPhone.

  3. muphinDOTnet says:

Why would Apple make their own search engine, Apple wouldn't invest that much when there are too many alternatives out there, realistically Apple would let Google and Bing fight it out, the true winner is Apple.

  4. wolverinemarky says:

apple making a search engine is a waste of time they wouldnt do that they make tons of money off Google i wouldnt even bother

  5. TimW says:

saya yakin google akan selalu menjadi yang terbaik

  7. Ray says:

Apple doesn’t need to build their own search engine, it’s useless.

  8. Goggle eyed says:

People, people, be warned. google is not the be all end all, the way we search and look to google to show us what it deems as relevant to our needs will soon explode in our faces. You are not searching the internet! You are searching what google has decided in it’s wisdom is relevant. I welcome any competition within the search engine market, google have too large a share at the moment,it maybe a wake up call to us all
