Dev Team Issues Warning to Jailbreakers & Unlockers to Avoid Upgrading to iPhone 3.1.3 [Updated]

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3

Apple just released the latest version of iPhone OS, iPhone OS 3.1.3, which includes number of bug fixes and improvements.

In case you have jailbroken and/or unlocked your iPhone and wondering if you should update then you should read this post.

iPhone Dev Team have issued the following warning to users who have jailbroken and/or unlocked their iPhone:

WARNING! At 10.30AM PST on February 2nd 2010 Apple released the 3.1.3 version (7E18) of the iPhoneOS.

If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.

  • PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.3

  • There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).

It also looks like iPhone OS 3.1.3 also updates the baseband firmware (05.11.07 to 05.12.01) so it means that if you’ve accidentally updated your jailbroken and unlocked iPhone with it, then you will not only lose the jailbreak but your iPhone will also get locked. You’ll have to either wait for someone to unlock the baseband included in iPhone OS 3.1.3 or wait for someone to figure out a way to downgrade the baseband.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have any further updates so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or  follow us on Twitter.

Update:

Dev Team is reporting that RedSn0w can jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3.

thanks guys almost updated there keep up the good work

  2. so sad says:

Can't wait for Geohot to come out with a solution and PWN the dev team..

    Yet again..

  3. steve says:

eh geohot doing ps3 now gave up on iphone

  4. Punk_Poet says:

is there anything new in the update? what "bugs" does this fix and what are the "improvements"… seems a bit fishy to me. it's a bit to late in the game for an update like this without any real improvements or something new for the end user.

  5. david says:

i just upgraded my iphone today. didnt read this before i activated and now my 3gs is locked. this is crazy

  6. Rick says:

Geohot crap never worked and f'd up my phone. Don't use. Stick with the dev team.

  7. jr says:

if i really dont care about unlocking, as i use at&t, would it affect my jailbreak? or can i just re-jailbreak? and would this update cause all my apps to be removed?

  8. Videokiddo says:

Does anyone know if we can do a restore to 3.1.2 if we are still running 3.1.2? Or will the phone not restore or activate?

  9. iPhoneHacks says:

If you update then you will lose your jailbreak and will need to wait for the Dev Team or Geohot to release software to re-jailbreak it.

  10. Linda H says:

Well, I am a jailbreak & unlock user and accidently upgraded today and when I tried to downgrade to 3.1.2, it did work and I also got jailbreak, BUT my firmware is 5.12.1.. therefore I cannot get it unlocked and I have T-mobile…But jailbreaking works.. I tried it with blackra1n earlier, Cydia downloaded fine, so did the sources that came with it. The only thing that didn't work was the sn0w unlock, which is obvious since its a new update from apple.. I got screwed -.-.

  11. lee_rbrt@yahoo.com says:

Sorry, I also accidently upgrade to 3.1.3, my iphone is 3GS. How to downgrade to 3.1.2?
    Can show me the step?

  12. Joe Blow says:

You would think people would learn not to upgrade when an update first comes out. This happens every time and people are crying because they updated

  13. dou says:

same here i updated to 3.1.3 and now my 3GS is locked – tried downgrading to 3.1.2 which lets you use the blackra1n and jailbreak but then only the phone is active but not the SIM card( im using T-mobile) i just dropped my phone to the store where i bought where there is a guy who deals with that stuff.if he can figure a way to unlock it or restore it to the way it was, ill let you guys know.

  14. mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

You cant downgrade hense this warning

  15. mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

That doesnt make sense, you want to restore back to 3.1.2 even though the phone is still running 3.1.2???

    Confused

  16. mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

Worked a treat for me, I use it all the time and I know many people using it.

  17. mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

People always do it without thinking though, I never upgrade until I know I can unlock and jailbreak it straight after.

Serves them right I guess for now paying attention.

  18. Bradical247 says:

I'm not an unlocker, and I just restored my 3Gs
to 3.1.3. I decided to undo my jailbreak until I get a new iPhone when my contract ends. Point is I don't really care about unlocking, but can anyone tell me if I can jailbreak it, even in the future will I be able to? I am on the older 3Gs that has an untethered jailbreak without the new Boot ID or whatever it is. Email me at bradical247@gmail.com

  19. snk says:

friend i also accidentally upgraded 3.1.3.
if you have any information pl mail me the same

  20. snk says:

  22. Videokiddo says:

Can someone answer my question? I want to know if I am currently running 3.1.2 and want to do a restore to 3.1.2 will the phone activate or force me to update to 3.1.3 before activating. I know when I was on 3.1 and 3.1.2 came out it would not let me do a restore to 3.1 It forced me to update to 3.1.2.

  23. A says:

From what it sounds like, most likely you will have no choice but to restore to 3.1.3. No other firmware is available

  24. K-Train says:

So i'm wanting to update to 3.1.2 but itunes wont let me restore or update to it when i go shift update/restore. Is that because 3.1.3 is out? If so is there a way i can update using a jailbreak program? I have a 3gs 32gb and im running XP 32 bit. Its one of the first 3gs's so i dont need to tether boot or what ever its called

  25. K-Train says:

i found away to get a around the signatures. its updating to 3.1.2 right now!

  26. Tamara says:

i also updated my iphone 3gs. i was on tmobile and i really need my phone please if there is a way to reunlock the phone please help!!!!!

  27. Whooohooo says:

anyone know if blackra!n will jailbreak 3.1.3? Wasn't it supposed to be able to jailbreak any version that was to come out? Just curios. I don't want to update my phone then not be able to JB it again. Im on ATT so i don't care about unlocking it.

  28. Tankueray says:

No. You can't unlock 3GS. It may be a while before a solution is available.

  29. Tankueray says:

Redsn0w will jailbreak a non 3GS. If you upgrade to 3.1.3 you will not be able to unlock, maybe ever. 3.1.3 is not an important update. If you're jailbroken on 3.1.2 just stay there until 3.2 comes out and a jailbreak is created for it.

What you're thinking about is the ability to unlock future versions. Before purplera1n came out, you could save your SHSH for a "purplera1ny day", but no one has created a tool for that yet. In Cydia, you may have also saved your SHSH. If you did, it will say so in green at the top. (There is a tool/way for it.)

  30. nixon says:

  32. Corey says:

ok, well i pluged my 3gs up to sync so i could add all my music in, and as soon as i did that it crashed went to recovery and gave me no option other than to restore and update!!! is there any reason why it did it automaticly? is there a way to prevent this in future use?

  33. Tamara says:

  34. Tamara says:

  35. Bryan says:

HELP! I bought a 3GS iphone before 12.22.09 and updated to 3.1.3 software by accident. I am trying to jail break my phone, I dont care about unlock, and everything I am reading says it cant be done. It says you need to downgrade to 3.1.2, but my problem is that I never jailbroke the phone when I got it, so I dont know if I can downgrade. How can I downgrade to 3.1.2 without having the phone jailbroken in the past? I am so confused by reading all the different posts and ways to get it done but can this be done or cant it? Can someone pls email me at blstewart20@yahoo.com with any insight?

    Thank you!!
