iPhone OS 3.2 SDK Hints At Video Chatting Capability In Future iPhones

iPhone OS 3.2 SDK

Folks at 9to5Mac seem to busy digging into iPhone OS 3.2 SDK. They are reporting that iPhone OS 3.2 SDK shows hints of video chatting capability in future iPhones.

They had earlier provided some nice tidbits about the various features in the iPad along with screenshots.

9to5Mac reports:

Below is some pretty definitive evidence that future iPhones and iPads will have video chatting capability.

These icons were found in the 3.2 SDK which seem to indicate that there will be video calling on a future iPxxx device.

Hidden in some of the underlying iPad telephony apps are some VideoChat strings that are equally, if not more, telling evidence of future VideoChatting capabilities.

Video chat likely means front facing camera on these devices as well.  We'll know more soon.  Also, we've found some references to "iChat".

While it is possible that Apple brought code over from its Mac telephony products, it is unlikely that they also built icons and compressed them into the iPad SDK for such a product if it weren't being built for future release.

This is not the first time we’ve heard of support for video calls. Trusted sources have also told Engadget that iPhone OS 3.2 has "rudimentary support" for video calling, which includes features such as option to accept or decline video conference calls, flip video feeds and the ability to run video calls either in full screen mode or in smaller screens.

We will have to wait until June to see if Apple introduces video calling feature in iPhone 4G. Based on feedback from our readers, it appears to be a feature, which could convince users to upgrade to the next generation iPhone.

Do you want video calling feature in iPhone 4G or would you prefer some other features? Let us know in the comments.

Nope I still think it needs the whole basic touch of holy shit to make it awsome again, maybe fm radio, tv tunner, a louder speaker of coarse video chat higher Meg cam, flash, these are basic things that a true smatphone should come standard with right?

  4. Jae says:

I'm all for the upgrades and all I just hope no one gets killed again Over apples products. Add flash and I guarentee with that feature alone it will top 3gs sales.

  5. Doggz says:

I agree with Jose. Give us these basic thing first! dam who wants to video call with a 2meg cam!

  6. yyyy! says:

usually video chats are carried out by VGA cams, 1.3MP is fairly enough for the secondary/video call. As for the main cam, 3GS has a 3.2, which is really GOOD in daylight. Next iPhone should get at least 5MP and a FLASH! thats it.
