Opera Mini Web Browser for iPhone – Coming Soon; If Apple Approves It

Opera Mini to come on the iPhone soon

Popular web browser developer Opera has announced its plans to bring its mobile web browser Opera Mini to the iPhone.

The company has said a "sneak peak" of the application shall be revealed during the Mobile World Congress that is to be held at Barcelona next week.

Opera Mini for iPhone will include all the standard features that users have come to expect from Opera's browser. This includes speed dialing, tabbed browsing and password management tools. However, one area where Opera could tend to beat iPhone's native Safari web browser hands down is in the page loading time. Thanks to the compression technology that Opera employs while sending and receiving data, the page loading time on the Opera Mini browser is claimed to be six times lower than Safari's. Also, the data compression would ensure that users who pay the carrier on a per MB basis can reduce their cost by up to 90%.

While all of this sound pretty impressive, do not expect the iPhone app to be available any time soon on the App Store though. Opera has indicated that the company is yet to submit the app for approval to Apple and given Cupertino's notorious walled garden policies, chances are high that the Opera Mini for iPhone may not see the light of the day. However Opera has stated that the company hopes Apple will "not deny their users a choice in Web browsing experience".

What do you think? Do you see Opera making it to the App Store soon? Tell us your views in the comments section below.

    Haha! Never happen!
They need to just put it on Cydia and be done with it

  2. No namer says:

    Cydia has less users /:

  3. blah says:

true but if it is not going to get approved it may still be used. It looks like it has been developed anyhow so why let all that work go to waste.

  4. TimW says:

Cydia has less users, yet did Clippy end up as proof that users needed it? Where's Snapture now? And was it down to Cydia that The Bluetooth stack got added to?
Cydia (&Rock) maybe only for the minority, but you can bet Apple have sampled Every package available. I bet they have people reading sites like this one on a regular basis (Hi Steve!!)
if a company was to bypass Apple and go for the JB market direct, they would never be allowed a second chance with the AppStore

  5. Ur mom says:

Did I read that right? It's 6 times slower!!! Just use the free safari app like I am doing right now…

  6. not@sure.com says:

no you did not read right…its 6 times LOWER…meaning that it loads 6 times faster than Safari

  7. jut says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
No you DIDNT read it right. HAHAAHAHAHA

  8. hxclos says:

I actually think this will get approved but only if Google keeps promoting this and puts the pressure on Apple. Apple is already looking like a communist government by blocking apps for rediculous reasons.

  9. VoIP Phone says:

Of course it's faster, uses less bandwidth and is more customizable than Safari and even has a working cache.

  10. taz says:

yo TimW fring was only available on JB market remember but it was allowed on app store so i dont c any reason y apple wont allow it if it was made available on JB market

  11. Chris says:

If Opera get the way to enter on iPhone then Google will launch their "9th wonder of the world" Chrome-Mini for iPhone. Wow!!!

  12. Angry Jimmy says:

WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Why is there such a global outrage that Microsoft should open it's operating system to all browsers but all you jokers are perfectly willing to let Apple decide this for you?? This is just wrong and we need to demand/expect better. Until then I will gladly use my jailbroken phone to the fullest extent possible. Ok, getting off soapbox now.

  13. Angry Jimmy says:

No. Loading times are 6x LOWER not slower. Please read the article before posting junk comments.

  14. Jon says:

    Peek, please. Peek.

  15. akrimay says:
