Dev Team Release PwnageTool 3.1.5 and Redsn0w 0.9.4 for iPhone OS 3.1.3

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3

We have good news for Mac users who felt out when iH8sn0w dev team released Sn0wbreeze 1.4 to jailbreak and unlock iPhone OS 3.1.3 for Windows users.

iPhone Dev Team has released PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac users who have jailbroken and unlocked (using ultrasn0w) their iPhone to help them safely upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3, preserving the jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock.

Interestingly iPhone Dev Team are calling this the “Pre-game show”. They have mentioned:

We aren’t revealing any new exploits to Apple with this jailbreak. Everything here has been used before, it’s just a straightforward port of Pwnage2 and 24Kpwn to the new firmware.  It’s possible the new firmware was released largely to flush out new exploits before the next big release.  We won’t be biting.

They have the following advice before using PwnageTool 3.1.5 or Redsn0w, so please read it VERY carefully:

iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware.  This is no exception.  If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia.  That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.

If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom.  If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more.

You don’t need to be pre-jailbroken on anything but the iPod touch 2G early bootrom.  And really for that device, it’s faster and easier to use redsn0w 0.9.4 as mentioned in our last post.  For that matter, if you have an ipt1g, iphone2g, or iphone3g(and don’t need an unlock), you should use redsn0w too (but version 0.9.3).  It’s faster and you won’t have to go through a full restore process (just do an update then run redsn0w, pointing it at 3.1.2 FW instead of 3.1.3).

They have the following advice for iPhone 3GS users:

If you have an iPhone 3GS, PwnageTool works if you’re currently at version 3.1.2 or below (down to 3.0).  You don’t need to be already jailbroken — PwnageTool will ask you if you’re jailbroken after you’ve created the IPSW.  Don’t use PwnageTool on the iPhone 3GS if you’re at 3.1.3, it just won’t work.  Downgrade to 3.1.2 using the methods described here.  If you can’t downgrade because you don’t have your 3GS 3.1.2 hashes on file with Cydia, you’ll need to sit out the 3.1.3 jailbreak.

We hope you’ve have read the instructions very carefully. Please remember hacking your iPhone could void its warranty. So please proceed with caution and at your own risk and don’t forget to take a backup of your iPhone (refer to this post for more details).

Hello everyone. I have just recently updated my iphone to 3.1.3 by mistake. anyone knows what i should do to downgrade or any advice to jailbrake my iphone again??

  • guna

    Hello 235745

put ur phone in restore mode and connect to itunes.
    Restore the custom firmware.

    Create custom firmware using

    it worked for me.

  • guna

    I have unlocked 2G phone

  • 235745

Hello Guna. how do you create custom firmware? and will it downgrade? thanks.

  • guna

I am taking about 2G phone.i upgraded my firmware from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3. Use the following links.

  • Ryan

i'll just wait until they create a jailbreak program for 3.1.3 straight up.

  • Josh

Ryan you may be waiting till the next OS is realised, this upgrade is not important enough for the dev team to reveal to Apple new exploits just so Apple can fix them before the next big OS relics. The article it dos tell us that right at the beginning.

  • TimW

So, how do I find my bootrom?
    It's a 3Gs, 5.11.07, Model no starts with MC, running 3.1.2 jb/Blackra1n rc2

  • Zephus

Still freakin confused. Im running 3.1.2 3gs with that crap bootrom that didn't let me jailbreak unless it was tethered. Is this version of pwnage bypassing the tether now? No mention of that and I won't jb yet without knowing if it's a tethered jailbreak or not. And even with this bootrom there was no mention whether I should avoid using this version, unlike that new sn0w that came out earlier who says I should. Any advisement?

  • Josh

You can find your baseband via the Settings app (General->About->Modem Firmware

OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If the 4th/5th digits of the serial # are before 40 then you should have the old bootrom.

  • rEiNiEr

actually you can already jailbreak 3.1.3 depending on your iphone model using redsn0w, but with no unlock atm.

  • joey mac

i restored my iphone 3gS (early version) with 3.1.3 firmware bcuz my camera stopped working when i updated my carrier settings when itunes loaded, i lost my jailbreak. all you have to do is use jay freemans way to redirect requests to Apple's signature server to Cydia, download a good 3.1.2 firmware for 3gs, hold shift, restore to that firmware and when the error message appears and the itunes connect is displayed on your phone, run REDSNOW 0.9.4 and boot as a teathered jailbreak. phone will start and activate when itunes loads. then use blackra1n like you did b4. then restore from back up. even tho modem firmware update it still activates since you downgraded..

once i updated my carrier settings, shit on my phone wouldnt work, its like apple forces you to update.

  • akrimay

Guys…I think u should wait til they do come up w/a prog to jb version 3.1.3…patience grasshoppers!

  • simon

can i ask u guys a question ? if u keep restore your phone will its mess up the phone…

  • ryan

yeah and since i have a 3gs i'm not gonna bother downgrading (considering i had upgraded to 3.1.3). currently running 3.1.2 and already jailbroken so i'm fine with that. also don't feel the need to go through all the steps just to upgrade to 3.1.3. like i said, i'll wait 😉

  • vanderson

    re: joey mac
I'm in the same situation (i.e. phone model etc.) and am following your instructions. On saurik's post on restoring to 3.0 firmware he mentioned doing the restore twice when getting the error message. Is that what you did? Thanks for the redsn0w version number, I was curious about that.

  • Joeymac

You only restore once. Use freemans way to redirect signature to cydia, hold shift, click on restore, chose 3.1.2 firmware u downloaded for 3gs, let it restore, once the error message comes up in iTunes, close iTunes, open redsnow, chose 3.1.2 ispw, click next, yes to newer 3gs,(even if you don't) unclick cydia, click. Teather option, click next. iPhone will finish restore since iTunes couldn't since the downgraded firmware won't work with modem update from 3.1.3. After it is finished. Close redsnow. Open iTunes and phone will activate.. Then back up, or sync..

  • Joeymac

Then run blackrain rc2 or rc3 to add cydia and rock.

  • Bud

Any news regarding a 3GS 3.1.3 Jailbreak capability yet?

  • tone

i did it. how long time do i have to wait until my phone come on after i press make it ra1n. it says done, wait for reboot on blackra1n

  • PebsUK

Tried this on a 3GS old boot rom it worked fine but left the phone without telephone/3G, so back to 3.1.2 waste of several hours!!

Just a thought but had o2 unlock the phone when they said they would could this be the reason?

  • Joey mac

If you downgraded your old 3gS from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 you can't unlock it. I could only jailbreak my 3gS for now.

  • PebsUK

No my phone is actually unlocked – can request it from o2, when I upgraded to 3.2 I lost carrier!!

  • PebsUK

Start that again, my phone is actually legally unlocked as its just a request to o2. When I upgraded to 3.1.3 the jail break worked but I lost carrier!! Downgrading has restored the status quo!

  • Nour Tarek

ok the jailbreak has screwed up my battery, anyway to get this not to happen?

  • dogger

if i buy a new iphone 3gs, will i be able to jailbreak it?
I don't care if it's on 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 but i just need to know

  • Reno

Hi. I have a 3GS and I already updated to 3.1.3. is it possible to jailbreak from here (instead of going back to 3.1.2) or do i have to wait for a new jailbreak?

  • puneet gupta

i updated my i phone 3g to latest versionplz suggest me how to jailbraek that

  • Okay, I'm kinda confused about what is and is not advised. I just updated to OS 3.1.3 on my iPhone 3GS. It has never been jailbroken or unlocked before. I only want to jailbreak my phone, and I don't need to carier unlock it. Can this new version jailbreak my phone?

  • israelfox

hi just got a new iphone 3gs and it came with 3.1.3 out of the box can i jailbreak it? i dont care about the unlock just jailbreak any help??

  • badboy

    please release it soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon

    many thanks

  • ScoAus

I have an iPhone 3gs, with new bootrom. It has 3.1.3 firmware, and 05.12.01. Yes I know I am a wanker, but I didnt do it
I only want to jailbreak! I dont care about unlock, I have the right sim, so its not needed.
I tried the redsnow method, and it all worked fine except no cydia, and not jailbroken. Yes I selected install cydia.
So any suggestions? Can this iPhone be JAILBROKEN only?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Mike_0|ive

When you say the redsn0w method worked, what do u mean by this? Do u mean that it jailbroke the iPhone or what? After using redsn0w was there anything different about the phone? I just upgraded software totally by accident and have been looking for a way just to jailbreak my phone because I really wanna use cydia

  • simon

i have the 3gs 3.1.2 fw jailbroken, but in cydia front page its say this device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS :3.1.3 what is that phone is 3.1.2 not .3.1.3 how come its say .3.1.3 on file. can someone please tell me….

  • Mike_o|ive

Is ther any way making a custom bootrom to load the iPhone after downgrading from 3.1.3 (new bootrom) to 3.1.2 fw, if this is possible the phone wouldn't need to connoct 2 apple to boot after you did a shift + restore. Any one else think that this method would work ??

  • memoriesland

does anybody have any ideea about when the developers could release the prog to jb version 3.1.3 ?
    thanks all

  • Mike_o|ive

I read today that geohot has a confirmed updated blacksn0w that will jailbreak 3.1.3 new bootrom, it could released before the end of feb I will post soon as I know anything people just to sit tight it will happen I know that's it's annoying waiting for this gold dust software to be avalible.

  • Fernando

  • hi i just upgrad my iphone 3g,.3.1.3 and i just jailbreak it ,so now anyone tell me pls how can i unlock my iphone

  • john

can anyone tell me the whole process for WINDOWS instead of MAC..thanks

  • george

    i wish it will work

  • Craig

Tim check serial, mines 88936, hence mines week 36, old bootrom. If your's is below 40 on the 4th and 5th then yours is too.
Got a feeling yours is more recent tho?

  • Craig

In my opinion if any of you are on 3.1.2 – bloody well stay on it, dont mess around upgrading to 3.1.3 – there's no benefit, only bugs in Safari and more battery loss, up to you, but i've been there, i'm sticking with 3.1.2 thanks.

  • iphoneuser

I am using the old 2G phone, and was at 1.1.4 firmware. Right now, I am so stuck at the itunes and usb logo. I have tried iBricked it, I have tried blackra1ned it, I even restored it with 3.1.3 firmware and redn0wed it with 3.1.2 ipsw. I hold down the Power button and the Home button and tried every possible way to unlock it, but none of these read the phone. Help please.

  • Iphoneuser

Guys, I answered my own question.
Problem: I blackra1ned my phone, got stuck at Itunes-usb logo screen.
Solution: Restore it via Itune to 3.1.3 firmware. Once done, Itunes-usb logo screen will appear again, it will ask for a valid sim card (AT&T). Put in the valid sim card (you can borrow it from your friend who has AT&T as a provider). Open Itunes and it will recognize it right away, then it will ask to activate the phone, don't activate. Now Blackra1n it again, it will work. Remember, Blackra1n only do jailbreaking, not unlocking. Here's the link to unlock.

    Good luck.
