Dev Team: RedSn0w Can Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3

There is some good news for iPhone 3G (if you don’t care about unlocking), iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G users.

iPhone Dev Team who had issued a warning that users wanting to jailbreak and/or unlock their iPhone should not upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 is reporting that RedSn0w 0.9.2, their latest cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking and customization tool can jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3.

We recommend that you read the post very carefully before

Dev Team is reporting on their blog:

[Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Thanks to daring experimenters in the comments, we can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G.  Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3.  So far we’ve only confirmed this for iPhone 2G.  (Note that if this does work for iPhone 3G too, you can *only* use it if you don’t care about the unlock.)

[Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too.  Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!). For older iPod touch 2G, we’ll need a small (1-character) change in redsn0w source.

So the iPhone OS 3.1.3 update is safe for iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G users. It is also safe for iPhone 3G users who don't care about unlocking. Users who have iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G and newer iPod Touch 2G should AVOID upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Please remember hacking your iPhone could void its warranty. So please proceed with caution and at your own risk and don’t forget to take a backup of your iPhone (refer to this post for more details).

If you have an iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (but don’t care about jailbreaking) or iPod Touch 1g and plan to try RedSn0w (download details available in this post), please let us know how it goes in the comments.

  6. experx says:

I upgraded 3GS with 3.1.3, jailbroken is gone and am with original carrier so no issues there. Deleted Cydia, Rock icons but surprisingly, the tethering is still enabled in settings.

Don't panic, there will be a fix soon

  7. Does the 3.1.3 updates baseband?

i have an unlocked iphone running 3.0 and something happened tonight. It wouldnt boot past the apple after I tried to change a theme through cydia. I hooked it up to my mac and it says i need to restore and update to 3.1.3

I obviously don't want to do this, however, I don't know what to do. I just want to get my iphone back up and running. It is unlocked and I use it on t-mobile. not opposed to updating it to 3.1.2 . anyone know how I can do this without going to 3.1.3?

    Please help!

  14. pharma says:

The update worked on my jailbroken 3G. Went from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 — only had issues because I initially forgot to point RedSnow to the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW. After jailbreaking used Cydia and Rock with no issues.

  15. Johnny says:

Is it typical to have to re-jailbreak and reinstall all jailbroken apps after each firmware upgrade? Or does the dev team release an app to help us jailbreakers seamlessly upgrade?

  16. pharma says:

Typo … When I upgraded my Iphone 3G from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3, I pointed RedSnow to the 3.1.2 iPhone 3G IPSW, not 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW.

    Pharma

  17. pharma says:

You might want to ask Apple why we have to jailbreak at all? They should provide this functionality to begin with since they are taking your money.

  18. Josh says:

same happened to me here is what I did to fix. Good luck

    to fix:
    0) Turn it on so it goes to the apple logo
    1) Hold the power button and the home button
    2) Keep holding both until the screen goes black
    3) Let go of only the POWER button, but keep holding the home.
    4) Connect you iPhone to your comp
    5) Itunes should open up. Restore

  19. Onetimecomment says:

    Are you sure?
I was able with my 3gs to do an untethered jailbreak with Blackra1n.

Also I have the 3gs since it came out and have the SHSH on Cydia for 3.0,3.1 and 3.1.2.

I tought only the newer 3gs were affected and needed a tethered jailbreak?

Is it just by precaution since it's hard to identify the newer 3gs for the older 3gs?

  20. [MobileTech] TigerFade says:

does 3.1.3 fw fixed boot looped 3gs???

  21. 420Dude says:

I use PkgBackup and SBOrganizer from cydia store to get everything back to the way it was b4 the upgrade.

  22. jD says:

How bout an unlocked 2G iPhone still running 1.1.1?

  23. majorbb100 says:

jeez can we please get ipod touch 2g support? why is it always left out?

  24. mlumb says:

I want to use redsn0w to jailbreak my 3G iphone. From what I can tell doing this will NOT require me to do a full restore afterward. Is this correct?

  25. rdalal1980@gmail.com says:

Can someone help. I just got my Iphone 3Gs and im with AT&T. By accident i upgraded to 3.1.3. If there a way to downgrade back to 3.1.2?

  26. Carl says:

I also just got my iphone and am with ATT I also want to go back to 3.1.2. Help

  27. chris says:

no you can never downgrade just wait for a jail break from dev or black ra1n

  28. Pharma says:

I used the restore feature in "Rock" to restore my "jailbroken" apps. Since instructions were somewhat vague, I followed the same procedure I used when I loaded 3.1.2 a few months ago (http://www.iclarified.com/entries/index.php?caid=2&scid=11&seid=2). The only difference is I made the minor changes mentioned in the instructions above:

"Thanks to daring experimenters in the comments, we can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3. So far we’ve only confirmed this for iPhone 2G. (Note that if this does work for iPhone 3G too, you can *only* use it if you don’t care about the unlock.)"

    Pharma

  29. pharma says:

In this case I upgraded my 3G from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 and everything is working fine. Just remember the procedure is very similar to what you did the last time except you use the 3.1.2 iPhone 3G IPSW firmware when using RedSnow, not 3.1.3 iPhone 3G IPSW.

Following this you will need to restore your jailbreak apps using which ever restore app you normally use for jailbreak app backups from Cydia or Rock.

  33. Mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

Redsn0w will tell you step by step what buttons etc you need to press on your iphone, its pretty easy

  34. Mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

Not sure what you are asking?

  35. Mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

    well said…!!

  36. Mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

What locked the keypad, phone itself or you talking carrier?

  37. Mash_up@yahoo.co.uk says:

You APBackup from Cydia to backup and restore all jailbroken app's, every firmware update will wipe these from your phone!
