The launch date for the Apple iPad has just been announced. In a media statement released today, Apple has announced that the Wi-Fi model of iPad will hit the stores in US on April 3.
However, customers wishing to purchase a 3G supported version will have to wait a little longer till late April.

Apple's iPad is now available for pre-orders in the US.
According to the release, pre-orders for all models of the device will start from next week. Customers wishing to pre-order an iPad can do so either online or from one of the Apple retail stores starting March 12 today. Apple has also revealed that the device will launch in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April. We are not sure if this shall be a concurrent release with iPad 3G in US.
As announced already, the basic version of the iPad - a 16GB Wi-Fi only model will cost $499. Here are the prices of all versions of Apple's tablet device
Wi-Fi only models

Wi-Fi + 3G models
- 16GB : $629
- 32GB : $729

Apple's media statement does not make any mention of the speculated subsidies on the 3G version of iPad. However, like announced earlier, the launch of iPad will also bring 12 new iPhone apps to the App Store that have been specially built for iPad users. Apple's iBookstore can be accessed via the free iBooks app downloadable from the US App Store from April 3.

So if I pre order on Friday the 12th, then will the item ship out on April 3rd? Or will it arrive to my house on April 3rd? Or do I have to go and pick it up?
500 for a 16gb wifi only… i think i'd rather just get a netbook with windows 7 and 160gb for $300.00
in my experience, if apple officially releases something at 6pm on a day, and i've pre-ordered, it will arrive at 9am on that day, before anyone else gets one =)

first it wouldn't be the normal mac os it would be the iphoen os. and if you dont like windows 7 then you can get a netbook with android or Ubuntu… or better yet dual boot.

I use both mac and pcs… macs are not as great as you might think…. they have major wifi problems. google mac wifi problem and you'll see what i mean. also youtube mac crashes.
my pc that is half the price of my mac runs faster and has less problems.
one reason people hate pcs is cause they go out and buy an emachine. if you spent the money you would on a mac for a pc you would have an insanely fast pc.
