TomTom, one of the market leaders in Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs) has released a new version of their iPhone app that turns the iPhone into a turn-by-turn GPS device with voice navigation.
TomTom iPhone app (version 1.3) finally gets real time traffic updates, which was one of the most requested feature by users.
TomTom has dropped the price for their iPhone app since it was launched last year in August. The price of TomTom US & Canada iPhone app has dropped from $99.99 to $69.99.
The new version of the their iPhone app includes the following new features:
-
REAL TIME TRAFFIC: The best traffic information available today - for the fastest route every time and the most accurate arrival time estimate. Available via in app purchase.
-
GOOGLE LOCAL SEARCH: Find countless shops and businesses wherever you are, and navigate directly there. Access the latest Google listings from within the TomTom app.
-
NEW MAP: Drive with the latest, most accurate map.
-
MUSIC FADING: Music fading will gently reduce volume while TomTom gives you driving instructions, and will return to normal volume between prompts.
-
AUTOMATIC DAY & NIGHT MODE: Your app calculates local sunrise and sunset times to automatically adjust the screen brightness while driving, for a safer drive.
-
ADD LOCATIONS from other applications and websites on your iPhone to your TomTom app and instantly navigate to them or store them as favorites for future use.
All the features in TomTom iPhone app v1.3 [iTunes link] are free except for the real time traffic updates.
Unfortunately, you have to buy the real time traffic updates via the in-app purchase option for $19.99 per year and is not included in the iPhone app. You apparently also have the option of purchasing traffic updates per day, month, quarter or year in the UK.
Let us know your take on the new features included in TomTom’s iPhone app in the comments.
wow sounds pretty nice maybe when the next iphone comes out i will get that app because it will be cheaper by them lol
19.00 a year that s a highway robbery.
are you retarded? 19 a year is pennies a day. . .
for traffic updates, that could save you hours a day. = gas saved. . .
If I owned the app which I don't, I'd buy the traffic in a minute. Atlanta traffic is horrible and with radio traffic reports 5 minutes appart, you could be seriously jammed up by then. I will not but the app unless it drops to 39.99. I would have to buy the mount and at $100, my standalone is more convienient and less expensive.
if we all think like this. we would wait forever, because technology just keeps gettings better and cheaper every day.
I let my Garmin FM traffic subscription expire – it was $60 per year.
$20 / year for traffic isn't bad, but I WAS disappointed my wife and I can't both use it at the same time. You have to transfer the subscription from iPhone to iPhone.
TomTom: Ahead, keep left, then, keep left.
They need to work on their voice prompts. Staying on the freeway in LA and going through clover leafs TomTom updates you like five times to stay left and continue on the freeway. Geez! I heard you the first time!!!
I second that. It is a little confusing. Sometimes it doesn't even say to take the ramp on the freeway and it will recalculate from lane to lane.
