Xbox Games Could Be Coming Soon To iPhone Thanks To Novell

Novell develops framework to bring xbox 360 games to iphone

Your favorite Xbox 360 games could soon be made available on your iPhone. Ironically though, it is not Microsoft that is working to bring these games to the iPhone platform, but Masschusetts based Novell. According to a report on PC World, the company's MonoTouch technology will now make it easy for developers to translate their Xbox 360 games into applications for the iPhone

The MonoTouch technology is based upon XNA - a .NET based software framweork that will enable the easy portability of Xbox games to other platforms like the iPhone OS. Novell is reported to have used the technology to build an open source derivative of an Indiana Jones Xbox game. Incidentally, this is the same game that Microsoft has used to demo the gaming application on its Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox platforms.

Novell's technology will enable Xbox games to be made available on iPhones much earlier than they do on Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform which is expected to launch later in the year. PC World also reports that the company is working on porting the games to the Android platform though work on that front is assumed to be in the initial stages.

Novell's work on the Xbox front could be a significant setback for Microsoft as the company prepares to launch a new version of their mobile OS and the Xbox gaming functionalities are already seen as a unique add-on to the Windows Phone 7 platform. With the games now potentially available on the iPhone platform as well, Microsoft's new platform may have just lost its luster. What do you think?

Abosultely legal, it would be the developers of the xbox games building them on iPhone and selling them – probably just like all the other apps on the app store.

According to Wedbush’s Michael Pachter, most of the Xbox 360 methods sold during the month were actually these older, discounted models.
