Android OS Running On iPhone

Adobe to stop Flash to iPhone compiler investment

We have already seen Linux ported on iPhone and Windows running on a hacked iPhone.

planetbeing of the iPhone Dev team member who was credited for porting Linux to the iPhone has just announced that he has successfully ported Android OS to the iPhone with help from CPICH, harmn1, posixnina, jean, marcan, saurik, and TheSeven.

planetbeing reports:

It should be pretty simple to port forward to the iPhone 3G. The 3GS will take more work. Hopefully with all this groundwork laid out, we can make Android a real alternative or supplement for iPhone users.

planetbeing has published a YouTube video of Android OS running on the iPhone 2G:

As you can see, Android OS on iPhone seems to work quite well. You also seem to have the choice of either running Android OS or iPhone OS, which is pretty cool.

This means that even though Adobe has stopped working on Adobe for Flash, we could still see Flash running on the iPhone.

Lets us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks Nicholas, TimW and Karl for the tip!

Yeah keep us posted. Why not.. The more of anything the better when u want to waste some some on the train to &from work.

  2. Xtrips says:

I got a 3G and like many am waiting for the 4G to upgrade. I thought I might get rid of the 3G then by selling it or whatever but it would be nice to have it run Android.

  3. Is there an expected date for the Androis OS for 3gs? I would love to try it out. One of my concerns is though, I have a tethered jailbreak, so with the duel boot option, would I have to jailbreak again when swopping from android to iphone OS? If so that would suck!

  4. Jordan says:

    that's freaking cool

  5. Wesley Serrano(Brasil) says:

    It's realy F#!! Cool !!
    guy's u d man !!!

  6. Nightedge says:

Awesome I can't wait for it to go up for the 3gs! Gives me something to play with also try out the OS. Keep us updated on this awesome new topic so we can get as soon as possible.

  7. Macsimos says:

It would be cool to have the Android OS to duel-boot on the iPhone. I like the idea of havin he best if both worlds!

  8. Ben says:

SOOOO…I know this is a 'still being refined'' version, but will we have access to all the goodies normal android phone users will? The apps and such?

  9. Ben says:

Also, will this WORK on AT&T?? Or will AT&T be able to ''see'' that I'm running Android on my iPhone??

  10. Ben says:

LOL oh wow, ok. This is definitely not something you can just download and then install. Don't bother if you're not uber geek savvy.

  11. Monkhouse says:

I'm more looking forward to android slate os on the ipad. Then u can have the best of both worlds. That would make an awesome dual boot machine.

  12. d brown says:

    when can i get it

  13. djman10 says:

Dual-boot on an iPhone? Way cool!!!

    @dwight…Who care's if you're first. Grow a brain pls.

  14. Ben says:

So, who can explain how to do this in layman's terms? I've downloaded the file, but now what? The 'Readme' makes zero sense.

  15. wolverinemarky says:

might be cool to try on my 3g before the next one comes out

  16. Ben says:

Emailed the original poster, waiting patiently for help.

  17. TimW says:

    Good question about Tethered.
Can only assume that if you switch OS that you'll be stuck with your choice unless someone figures an untethered solution
I'd be happy with Android as an option though, time will tell though

  18. Tagart says:

I'm pretty sure that by the time this is ready there will be an untethered solution for your phone. Just remember not to update again until either Geohot or the DevTeams has released an untethered break.

  19. Tagart says:

Good call, this would be an excellent alternative for the ipad. I was thinking that myself when I was watching the video.

  20. Sameazel says:

Dude you are a fricking genius that is the shit and apple will just have to deal with it lololol

  21. Backstabber69 says:

I think that's the reason why it'll take more work, the project is called openiboot, so i'd think it uses an iboot exploit. Although an iboot exploit for 3gs is found, they won't release it ill iPhone HD or4G, whatever you want to call it.

  22. jdb says:

I hope your dog gets hit by a car asshole. I fucking hate "first" posts.

  23. samsung jack10835 says:

    when is this coming out

  24. Josh says:

Best news for a long time!

  25. choemin says:

Cool… Now I can run Android on my 2G iPhone which is currently sitting in my drawer collecting dust… waiting for the good news dude.

  26. Ben says:

Yes, if and when we get a step by step in plain english for the less 'geek' minded. I'm hoping this development makes it to the point where it's as easy as download the OS, make a few clicks and you're done. Similar to the Jailbreak software evolution.

  27. douglaswhyte says:

An iphone with android! How about an HTC with an iphone firmware? I am dreaming of a HD2 with an OS3.13

  28. dwightlover says:

Yeah I hate first posts too. Love to kill dwight.

  29. luigy says:

that will be better thank iphone with android because the htc hd2 is more powerfull

that will be incredible to see. and htc with 1ghz processor 512 ram and 4 inch screen. suppeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrr

  30. Grime says:

And lets not forget that you can get practically any subsidized phone (including an Android) for a lot less than an Iphone. Imagine how fast the price of an Iphone would drop if you could "easily" install ios on an android smart phone, keyword being easily. Thats what I'm waiting for!!!!!!! Still good job on android option.

  31. Grime says:

Couldn't read dwights original post, but whats the dog have to do with anything. lol
