MacRumors has reported that they’ve received photos of the next generation iPhone’s rear casing.
The photos reveal that the next generation iPhone could get an aluminum unibody enclosure like the iPad, Macbook Pro and Macbook Air.
MacRumors don’t seem to be convinced about the validity of the photos “given their claimed origins and other issues”.
MacRumors reports:
We have received a set of images purportedly depicting an iPad-inspired rear shell design for the next-generation iPhone. While we have questions about the validity of the images given their claimed origins and other issues, they are interesting enough that we have decided to publish them.
MacRumors has also made the following observations:
Text on the back of the claimed shell indicate that it is a 64 GB model, and the first line of small text includes Apple's traditional "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China" information. Unfortunately, the images are not of high enough quality to interpret the second line of text, which would contain the model number and FCC and IC ID numbers.
The images also show cutouts for the same physical features found on existing iPhone models, with a circular camera lens hole at the top left of the rear shell, space for a ring/silent switch and volume rocker along the side, and dock connector, microphone, speaker, and a pair of screw holes along the bottom.
Metadata included with the images indicates that they have passed through Photoshop CS4, with the first two images carrying yesterday's date while the third carries a date of March 23rd.
The metadata included with the photos indicates that MacRumors source either used Photoshop to do some editing of the photos such as lighting effects etc or the so-called leaked photos are completely fake.
Apple is expected to launch the next generation iPhone in June and it is speculated that the launch date could be on June 22 along with the release of iPhone OS 4, which was previewed at a special event last week. We’ve also heard rumors that the fourth generation iPhone will be dubbed iPhone HD.

If it's unibody, why would there be screw holes in the bottom?
Those edges look pretty sharp! (Cant go wrong with curves)
This design is terrible the only way I would buy this if it had an 8megapixel camera (1.3megapixel in the front), double the ram of the 3G S and amazing battery life.

At this point im no longer worried of the iphone looks. but what other features 4.0 will have. This phone has almost no diffrence from the 3gs other then the metal housing and its more square. cough cough htc evo 4g.
You guys realize this means no camera flash in the new iPhone? Unless I'm missing something, there's no spot for a flash to go.

While I don't think this is what the 4th gen will look like, I really enjoyed the feel of the aluminum (or whatever it was) on my original iPhone. I would welcome a return to that. (Please no plastic portion like then.) I don't think (looking at the original iPhone, and the iPad WiFi + 3G that a all aluminum shell is feasible. Every one of those have distinctly off-colored plastic parts (I'm assuming for the antenna).
God that's ugly and would be uncomfortable to hold.

it still comes apart, how do you think they would put together an iphone that is completely sealed, without welding it shut after putting the parts in?
Seems that the bottom image photoshop job was terrible as the bottom text is crooked.

You guys relize this is the same model they thought the 3gs would look like and the 3g and 3gs are plastic unnlike the 2g because the antennas get bad reseption threw the medal. Should do research it's a fake

kinda looks like a digital pic… looks nice, but the picture looks fake.
Apple needs to step there game up, HTC EVO, HTC HD2 need i say more. Plus HTC has some new line of phones to come.
Fake, no space for the cell antenna. The do not work through metal (aluminum in this case). Look at the back of an ipad 3g

The perspective angle of the texts in the last picture just doesn't look real… looks Photoshopped to me.

sorry , but I don't think this is real , in the last picture you can see the "iphone" logo kind of misplaced , it does't look like it is parallel to the end of the case if you see what i mean …. but if this is the new iphone then i like the new look …. it changes from 3G and 3GS
