iPhone OS 4.0 Might Include Built-In Flashlight Application

Flashlight on iPhone OS 4

All of us have used our mobile phones like a flashlight every once in a while to find our way through darkness.

In fact, this unintended utility of mobile phones has also resulted in the launch of several iPhone applications on the App Store and Cydia for the jailbroken iPhone.

However, it now looks like Apple might have included this functionality in upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 as well.

In a recently published video, an iPhone user has demonstrated the ability of the iPhone to act as a flashlight. This is done by pressing the power/lock button of an iPhone running iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 three times in quick succession, which lights up the iPhone display with a bright white screen. Pressing the power button one more time will replace the flashlight screen with the normal iPhone display.

While this could prove to be a very useful feature on the new iPhone OS, we are not sure if this is actually a deliberate incorporation or if this is a bug with the new iPhone OS. It is also possible that Apple engineers may have included the flashlight functionality as an easter egg in the new iPhone OS 4.0.

You can watch the flashlight in action in the video embedded below.

Apple is expected to announce the release date of iPhone OS 4.0 and unveil iPhone 4G during the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote address on Monday, June 7. While a flashlight functionality may not be among the most anticipated features, we're curious to see if this feature indeed makes it to the final version of iPhone OS 4.0.

This could come in handy though… I think they should add it. Also, like the previous os, I believe they will release 4.0 during WWDC. At least, thats what I am hoping because I need those folders!!!

    Ya right..!
I rremember that the first iPhone 2g as soon as I jailbroke it, I was able to dig out through cydia apps and found an app that was actually flashlight, I am talking about an app that came up on 2008, it was the brightest app I could find beside the ones that free apps that apple had back in the days, always way behind hackers… Why???
They ( apple ) should have these bunch of engineers focus on fast innovation for new apps.
Cydia applications may not apply apple regulations but they are actually escentially helpful for us, THE IPHONE USERS.
Note: What this flashlight mAy cause on the new iPhone is a high battery consumption issue.
    :p
