iPhone Dev Team released PwnageTool 4.0 yesterday, which made it possible for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) users to update and jailbreak their iPhone with iOS 4. But it’s available only for Mac users.
So if Windows users are feeling left out, we’ve some good news for you. iH8sn0w, developer of Sn0wbreeze, which is the Windows version of the PwnageTool has announced that he will be releasing Sn0wbreeze for iOS 4 very soon.
Sn0wbreeze for iOS 4 will allow users to create custom firmware (.ipsw file) so that they can update and jailbreak their iPhone with iOS 4.
Sn0wbreeze will support the same devices as PwnageTool 4.0:
iPhone 3G/3GS (old bootrom/already jailbroken–NOT INCLUDING Spirit)
iPod Touch 2G
iH8sn0w has also published a video of Sn0wbreeze in action:

I'm still not 100% sure what bootrom I have but I didn't use Spirit on my 3GS. No tether necessary either so I think I should be able to Jailbreak without a problem. Can't wait!

No it won't work if you have jailbroken your iPhone using Spirit.
That's what I want to know. There is all this talk of not being able to jailbreak if you used spirit before, why is that? I have used pwnage tool, redsnow, blackra1n, and spirit all to jailbreak my iphone 3G at somepoint with spirit being the most recent.

I'd assume it depends on your bootrom version. If it's new then you're out of luck.

ok i am lost, here is what i have done so far my iphone 3GS had 3.1.3 and i used the Spirit jailbreak. when 4.0 came out i did a clean install . is there anything out there or anything coming out to jailbreak my iphgone 3gs that used to be jailbroken via Spirit . yes or no and please explain. i am a computer geek and i have gotten to the point where i am lost .
Is this the end of the line in Jail Braking for all us that used Spirit to JB souled we just install os4 and never JB again has apple won almost.
Can someone PLEASE clarify this: I updated to 3.13…used Spirit to jailbreak. Updated my baseband to 5.12. Then I DOWNGRADED to 3.12. Jailbreak with Blackra1n – baseband STILL on 5.12. It's an OLD bootrom – no tethered jailbreak ever needed.
So because I've jailbroken once before using Spirit – does this mean I can't use this when it's released???? Or since I'm currently on 3.12 – jailbroke with blackra1n, but with baseband upgraded to 5.12…I'm out of luck?

I have a iPhone 3g and installed the latest ios4 from felixbruns website via iTunes then I used Pwnagetool 4.0 to jailbreak. Make sure you DFU via Pwnagetool 4.0. then via Cydia I unlocked using ultrasn0w 0.93. Thats it. Works fine.
Spirit wont 'screw' it up, but it will not work. The reason being that the current versions of pwnagetool and sn0wbreeze both require the phone to be jailbroken when deployed. Spirit is not sufficient because it is a so called useland jailbreak and not in the actual booting of the device… that is also why otherwise tethered devices can use spirit to go without having to plug it in over and over again. hope my answer was sufficient
no, it doesn't matter if you've used Sprit prior to this… what is crucial is that your phone is jailbroken with a 'proper' jailbreak such as blackra1n. To make it easy for you, Baseband is irrelevant, and 3.1.2 with Blackra1n will work!

you could use f0recast to determine the bootrom I suppose, not sure, I don't trust it. But if you are jailbroken now untethered, and it is NOT with spirit, then you should have no problems!
no, that will NOT work. What you have to do is downgrade to 3.1.2 and deploy the blackra1n jailbreak. If you can't do that because you don't have your SHSH on file or you have the new bootrom you are out of luck.

no, you need to first downgrade to 3.1.2 (granted you can), then jailbreak with blackra1n and THEN you can deploy 4.0 with Sn0wbreeze

Can you jailbreak 3.1.2 with blackra1n untethered? then you can get 4.0 with sn0wbreeze, if you can't, no love for you at the moment
the situation is as such, that there is nothing out there at the moment that can provide a jailbreak for 4.0 without first having a device currently jailbroken with a 'proper' jailbreak, like previous sn0wbreeze, redsn0w or blackra1n.

The short answer is "NO". Sorry. As of this moment only iPhone 3GS (old bootrom and already jailbroken on 3.1.2), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non MC model) are the only models that have been confirmed.

What I don't understand from what yous said is that pwnagetool and sn0wbreeze require the phone to be jailbroken when deployed. Don't these tools "do" the jailbreaking?

Ok so maybe someone can help me here. I've jailbroken my phone many times before by downloading the firmware etc. However when I download the file this time instead of showing the firmware in a cube like icon square it seems to be in another format. I think someone on my PC changed the program around that it is supposed to run on. I hope someone knows how to change the file format to work with iTunes again. Any help please and thanks in advance!
