Comex To Release Spirit Like Tool To Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS And iPod Touch 2G/3G Soon

Spirit jailbreak ported to Linux

We have an update for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users who are eagerly waiting for iPhone Dev Team or Comex to release their tools to jailbreak and/or unlock their iPhone.

Comex has indicated that he plans to release his Spirit like tool in a few days and doesn’t plan to wait for Apple to release iOS 4.1, which it had seeded to developers of its iPhone Developer Program last week.

Few weeks back, MuscleNerd, member of the iPhone Dev team had announced that Comex will be releasing a Spirit like tool to jailbreak iOS 4 foriPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (irrespective of old or new bootrom) and also for iPhone 4.

But it was widely speculated that he will wait for Apple to release iOS 4.1 before releasing the tools. But he has just tweeted that he doesn’t plan to wait for iOS 4.1:

I'm not waiting for 4.1 so I hope everyone has SHSH blobs saved. :p

He has also indicated that he plans to release the Spirit like tool in a few days.

    Does this mean if I have a 3gs that was already 4.0 when I got it I am screwed since it is not yet jailbroken and thus I do not have blobs saved? If so are any of these upcoming jailbreaks for non-jailbroken iphones? I realize this may be a stupid question because everyone with an iphone 4 would be screwed to even though it specifically says it is for that phone as well?

    The best solution is Apple finally listening to us and implementing these things on their own.
    Even non jailbroken iPhone 4 is at least tolerable..not perfect cause the notifications suck but its not that bads..GO COMEX

    @iPhoneHacks: Where did you get that inofrmation? This is just NOT TRUE. He has never "He has also indicated that he plans to release the Spirit like tool in a few days" or gave any information regarding the release date. It may be in few days but is just guessing. On spiritjb.com clearly states: The release date of the next jailbreak is "when it's done". Don't trust what people write in the comments. ;) .

    This will be good for 90% of iPhone users. The other 10% don't really care. It's amazing how far jailbreaking has come and why those 90% of people really want it. Hell my wife 3g was jailbroken so she can customize it to her liking. Hope this does wonders for the new iPhone 4 owners.

    i dont understand why apple doesnt just go to the creator of cydia and say "heres 5,000,000 for your program and whatever and sell cydia in there app store. but oh well thats there problem im just so glad there are people out there willing to take there time and develop jailbreaks and unlocks and awsome tweeks and mods.

    Either use spirit, or upgrade to 4.0.1 then wait for comex's new jailbreak. However, make sure you have your shsh blobs saved no matter what you choose.

    If you have your blobs saved then you can just use those to downgrade, if not, then you're stuck at 4 or 4.0.1, whatever you have. AFter you downgrade just run spirit, or whatever jailbreak you want.

    Support, plain and simple. If Apple offered up Cydia or something like it, they'd then be on the hook to support any issues that arose from all the 3rd party software. Jailbreak apps, while some very useful, are almost all buggy as hell. Ironically, even if Apple opened the iPhone API wide open and let anything your little mind could dream up into the app store, most of what's currently out there would still be rejected because of bugs.

    You are MOSTLY correct. The new jailbreak will crack 4.0 and 4.0.1… they dont know for sure if it will break 4.1. That's why you need to save your SHSH Blobs. Here is the link, and you can save your blobs even if your phone isnt jailbroken thanks to firmware umbrella.

    You use firmware umbrella to save your blobs. that way when 4.x comes out that isnt jailbroken, you can use itunes to restore to a previous version IF you have your blobs saved. If you dont it checks with Apple to see what version of firmware is still "acceptable" to use. Apple changes the "acceptable" version usually the same day a new version is released.
    Example…

    you are running 4.0.1, apple releases 4.1 today. Next week your phone is acting up, you want to restore. Itunes checks back with Apple and says you MUST restore with 4.1. If you try and use the 4.0.1 it will say Sorry that's not valid. With firmware umbrella you can fake itunes into verifying the firmware is "acceptable" off your saved blobs allowing you to run previous versions of firmware.

    besides the tiny umbrella website says that there are no more blobs for 4.0. that means you have to use 4.0.1 to save them.

    I hope you are just mistaken in your writing here, but first – you can't downgrade with blackra1n. blackra1n is a jailbreak tool. Only way to downgrade to 3.1.2 is to have your 3.1.2 shsh blob on file and if you point your host file to cydia's ip address for the apple update server. If you simply try and downgrade and use blackra1n to get yourself out of the recovery loop, it's not going to work – not with geohot's jailbreak, not dev-teams, not anyones. It just won't work period. Apple is not signing these blobs for a reason – they don't want users to be able to downgrade to a jailbreakable firmware.

    And although geohot has a big ego and has been quite douchey lately, it still can't be denied that he was a pioneer in the jailbreaking community and will always remain that way. Say what you want about the kid, but he's got talent that deserves recognition.

    no – shsh blobs are device specific. And it's not likely it will come with 4.1 either. I just traded in my 3Gs due to hardware malfunction and I got one with 3.1.3 on it – and this was 2 weeks after 4.0 came out. They don't pull the phones out of the box to update them…the firmware is put on at the factory.

    you can use tinyumbrella to get your shsh for 4.0.1 – just make sure you save it as soon as possible in the event apple releases 4.1 Once a new firmware comes out, apple stops signing shsh blobs for previous firmwares and you will be screwed at that point as I believe comex's jailbreak will be compatible with 4.0 and 4.0.1 (not 4.1 as of yet as it's unreleased so no way to know yet)…but if you accidentally upgrade to 4.1 and have your shsh blobs saved for previous firmwares, you can downgrade and jailbreak.

    I saved shsh for 3.1.3 on cydia. Then I updated to ios4. After that I want to downgrade to 3.1.3. People said saving shsh will give chance to downgrade. I tried to downgrade.     I am giving up. I had a great iPhone 3Gs jb and unlocked. It started failing. Apple replaced it with one with 4.0 firmware. Same issues. Lousy volume. Battery drain! I am selling on eBay. Bought an android and a Pre Plus.
    Tired of Apple's ways.

    Edit your host file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts). Depending on your OS, you may have to open Notepad as "Administrator" (right click on notepad and choose run as administrator). Add this entry to the file and save it:

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

    If iTunes was open when you made the host file change, you may have to close it back down and reopen it.

    Once you downgrade, you'll probably be in a recovery loop – use tiny umbrella – on the right hand side, there is a "Kick device out of recovery" button.

    Hope this helps.

    If you are going to be using a altered version of the iPhone operating system, you must use an older version of iTunes and the iPhone OS to make sure that you are still within the agreement licensing terms, so before you jailbreak you may wan to think twice!

    spiritjb.org is an imposter site. Spirit Jailbreak for iOS4 will be out before this month end. Also, a jailbreak tool bundled with unlock tool is in progress…that is the latest update.

    hi i bought a 3gs phone in bangkok.. it was unlocked.. then i went home to australia. upgraded to latest verision (4 or 4.1 or something whatever it upgraded to) and now the damn thing is locked and unusable as aparently the phone is locked to the USA.

    what do i do? i tried in singapore and they wouldnt unlock if for me..
