Apple introduced a new version of iTunes – iTunes 10 at today’s special event along with the launch of the new iPod models and Apple TV.
iTunes 10 comes with an all new logo, Apple has ditched the CD in the new logo.
One of the major features introduced in the new version of iTunes is Ping, Apple’s social network for music.
iTunes Ping allows you to follow your favorite artists and friends just like Twitter but to discover the music they’re downloading, listening to and talking about.
Steve Jobs said:
“iTunes is the number one music community in the world, with over 160 million iTunes users in 23 countries, and now we’re adding social networking with Ping. With Ping you can follow your favorite artists and friends and join a worldwide conversation with music’s most passionate fans.”
Ping will also be accessible from the iPhone and iPod Touch for users who have upgraded to iOS 4.0.1 or iOS 4.0.2.
Here are some screenshots of iTunes Ping:
iTunes 10 also comes with a streamlined user interface.
Apple has also improved the syncing process in iTunes 10.
The new version of iTunes also includes support for AirPlay, a new version of AirTunes, which will allow you to stream music, video, and pictures around the house to devices that support AirPlay wireless technology.
You can download iTunes 10 now from the download page.
Update:
MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that iTunes 10 is safe for iPhone jailbreakers and unlockers.
iTunes 10 is safe for JBers+unlockers: DFU mode, syncing, selecting IPSW, all okay (Stay away from 4.1 next week though!)
Please don’t forget to drop us a line to tell us what you think about iTunes Ping.
wow..
Just installing it, will let you know shortly.
Is it safe for jailbreakers?
^^^ plus, does it suck ass in terms of performance? because itunes 9 needed a major rewrite
the above link, for the iTunes 10 download, downloads version 9 for me.
You have to go directly from the link on apple.com/itunes
Apple's web page for the download says that version 10 is coming soon, and version 9 is only available right now…

I wonder if ping is going to be available to iphones in ios 4.1, will it know if we are jailbroken/unlocked(cus you know they are gonna hack it)? And if so what will apple do?
whatever it is, the dev team and others will reverse engineer their safety systems and make a patch or something
Itunes new logo SUCKS!!!
u can use Ping on iOS 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 no need to wait on 4.1 :p
I have a jb'ed, unlocked iPhone 3G on 3.1.3. and I DO NOT want to upgrade to iOS 4 – can I still download iTunes 10?
Just installing this now, interested/excited to see what ping is like, as i love finding new songs and artists to listen to.
Ping is a dumb name!! To close to Bing that came out
I find it syncs faster than 9
Great, another twitter… Social network for music sounds really exciting.
I have downloaded iTunes 10 and have a jail-broken iphone 4. I'm having a problem though. When my phone is connected I cannot access my apps to either add more or remove them, when I try iTunes just crashes. I have re-installed iTunes 10 twice now and still having the same problem. Am I the only one or is anyone else having problems with their jail-broken phones?
I've read on other forums that there is something else causing it crash. The posting was 'its icon support or iconoclasm that crashes it', hope this helps.
I am having the same problem!!
I'm not having any problem at all with itunes 10 with J/B iphone 3GS on 4.01. Installation and everything went smooth and is running like is should. I have also noticed sync and backup is a bit faster.
Those having the problem might want to check their iphone or computer for problems.
i tried upgrading through itunes itself and it says my 9.2.1 is the latest version just tried before i posted
Download it from the iTunes download page:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
itunes keeps crashing iphone 4 on 401
I tried iTunes 10 with my jb iPhone 4 running 4.0.1 and my 3G running 3.1.3 and had no issues.
So when you upgraded to iTunes 10 you weren't forced to upgrade your iOS on your 3G?
I have just solved my iTunes crashing when I try to go into apps on my iPhone 4. My problem was I had a plug in on my home page (lockscreen info) which was some how interfering with iTunes, although I have never had this problem before. Simply by removing it from the home screen so that my first screen had apps on it has resolved the problem. I tested it out by re-putting the lockscreen plug-in back on my homes screen and guess what the same problem started, so it seams to now be fixed. If your having a similar problem and have a plug-in running on your home screen or no apps on your first page, then give this a go. Also some one else suggested to me that downloading a new app via iTunes can also fix this problem, but it didn't work for me. Good luck to all those who are having problems
i have fixed my problem. Have put instructions a few comments down. Might be worth a look.
i have not the shift & restore option on my mac itunes 10 please help
