Apple released the second beta version of iOS 4.2 yesterday for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to developers of its iOS Developer program.

Not surprisingly, the developer community have already put it under the scanner and have discovered some changes and improvements in the latest beta version of iOS 4.2.

iPadevice, an Italian website reports that they have observed speed improvements and more reliability in iOS 4.2 for iPad. They have also observed that the latest beta version uses fewer resources than the first beta version as seen in the chart below:

I still think overall JBing wins..

But still u won't update till a JB is released..

  5. Jason says:

The people have spoken. We all ask for opensource, no need to jailbreak. I feel like I'm a communist :-S lol. Also horizontal maps would be nice while driving.

  6. Z says:

  12. Bbdman says:

JB offers the quick swipe to turn off wifi and/or 3G for better life on the battery

  13. Eric says:

I still like swirleyMMS for MMS text, just because it's easier to forward all those disgusting test I get on a daily basis, so I will continue to JB.

Not to mention the first thing I install is SBsettings.

  14. JP says:

Being able to selectively block SMS/calls (I use MCleaner) is the main reason I jailbreak.

  17. Democracy says:

how is that a communist? that is a democracy=) Something we are/have lost, depending on who you talk to, in this country=) the American people still dont understand how America became great and how we are on a downhill slope because of all the politicians that are running our country into the ground, BOTH Republicans and Democrats. =)

  18. Cyberfreak says:

The only thing I would like to see in the new firmware is support for profiles.

  19. krelubot says:

dumb questions maybe, but do I need to jailbreak the iphone, or the ipad to tether these two?

  20. Choad17 says:

I'm waiting for Apple to modify their email app with the ability to "flag" an email. Maybe someone can write a jailbroken modify to add this :)

  21. bashar says:

does any one know if they added an arabic keyboard to the ios 4.2 for ipad?

the iphone has arabic keyboard since the firmware 3.0.1 but they took if off the ipad for some reason.

no way, SBSettings is still the most useful tweak for the iphone.

I work in an office of 20 people all who have iPhones. Most of us leave our phone on the desktop charger and it's annoying when someone gets a message because out of the 6 message tone 4 are usable and atleast 3 other people have the same. I want to jail break just for the customization.

  24. Scott says:

I would like for them to have an fm radio built in and the option to put the springboard in landscape mode, kinda like what SBRotator does..

  25. Sequen says:

DivX playback is available on iOS. Search for and install the "VLC" application.
