Steve Jobs confirmed at Apple’s special event held earlier in the week that iOS 4.1, which will be released next week will fix the performance issues observed by iPhone 3G users after upgrading to iOS 4.
The iOS 4 performance was so bad that some iPhone 3G users were forced to downgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3.
Folks at LifeHacker have tested iOS 4.1 Golden Master on iPhone 3G to see if it fixes the performance issues.

As you can see from the video iPhone 3G running iOS 4.1 appears to be a lot more responsive than iOS 4.
It needs to be seen if iPhone 3G users find the improvements big enough to continue using iOS 4.1.

True! I have just upgraded to iOS4.1 GM seed, it is very much stable, faster, and responsive than iOS 4.02.
However, it is still dropping calls. I wonder if it is the OS (starting from iOS 4.0) or the celco.
Anyway, for those who are struggling with iOS4.02, go for the upgrade, no second thought.
Weel, looks pretty good. My 3gs after 4.01 began to stuck rolling the contacts, too much time to open apps, and slow fade in/out animation. I hope the jailbreak comes quickly.

iPhone 3x (3g, 3gs, ipod 3x) stay on os 3.1.3, end of story. iPhone 4 can go head with os 4.x. That's it. Period.

i have an iphone 4, but i was really pissed that they removed support for the orig iphone.
As I said, os 3.x designed for iPhone 3gx dont bother to update to os 4.x, only ruin your device, just like old pc with small memory run win vista or win 7. Its runing, but ruunniinggg soo slowww. Listen to my advise son and u will be alright.
i have a 3gs on 4.0 as well. it works perfectly. don't just assume i dont know what i'm talking about
and i ran a 300mhz g3 on tiger just because it had more compatibility and it wasnt all that bad, i was web browsing and all on it.

I agree I just upgraded my 3GS and so far so good,what I like the best about iOS 4.0 is the bars,it might not be the most accurate but I have better signal overall so I think I will downgrade.I couldn't care less about the little new features I prefer signal.

Wonder if this will fix the low speaker volume from the loud speaker? Been experiencing this since updating to OS4, proper doin my head in now!
For 3GS, it seems quite alright. HOWEVER 3G PLEASE DONT. IT's better than iOS4 BUT NOT as near as iOS3. I'm downgrading it back to iOS3.1.3.

I hvae an iphone 3g. getting an iphone 4 soon but for the time being my 3g is so unresponsive. what is the best firmware in iOS 4 for it. I know that 3.1.3 form iOS 3 is fast but I still want to get some of the features and the new games in the app store. No Matter which one I dont care, but it has to be in iOS 4. pLEASE HELP
