Shazam Music Discovery Apps Get Major Update; Brings New Features, Support For iOS 4 And Retina Display

Shazam iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch app

Shazam’s iPhone app was released as a song recognition app for the iPhone when it was first launched on the App Store two years back, but it has transformed into a music discovery app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Shazam has just released a major update with new features and support for iOS 4 and iPhone 4’s retina display.

The latest version of Shazam includes the following new features:

• 30 sec preview clips for Tags and Charts
• Shazam Tag Charts from 20 countries
• Tag on startup
• Shortcut menu
• Videos in App
• Music search by Artist, Track or Album
• Completely new look and feel

You can also browse through the Tag charts to discover music that other users have discovered using the app.

Shazam was initially launched as a free iPhone app but it has released Shazam Encore last year, which is the paid version of the app that is available for $4.99 (for Lifetime) or $2.99 (for 1 year) via In-app purchase. You can tag only 5 songs per month with the free version of the app.

Shazam app for iPad is free (iTunes link) and offers unlimited tagging.

Shazam faces competition from SoundHound (free and paid - $4.99) previously known as Midomi (the name of the developer), which is one of the most popular music discovery apps that is available on the App Store.

You can download Shazam from the App Store using this iTunes link (Paid app).

  3. MK says:

I got it when it was free and still have unlimited tags, but if I were to upgrade I would be limited to 5 tags a month? I don't think so.

  4. Eskimo says:

I had it when it was free and unlimited tags. But when i got my ip4 had to buy the 4.99. Version. Best recognition app for sure. Don't mind paying for apps at all. Especially for apps that well kept up and that I use all time ( which is why I would be buying the app in the first place).
