Geohot had released Limera1n yesterday that can jailbreak iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch 3G and the new iPod Touch 4G.
The purpose of this guide is to provide you step by step instructions to jailbreak iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G using limera1n.
iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users can checkout this step-by-step guide to jailbreak their iDevice.
Here are some important points to note before you proceed.

This guide is ONLY for iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G users. iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users can use this step by step guide to jailbreak their iPhone using limera1n. iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users can use Redsn0w to jailbreak their iPod Touch.

Do not forget to backup your iPod Touch before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPod Touch.

Though limera1n supports iOS 4, iOS 4.0.1, iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 4.1, you can update it to iOS 4.1 and then jailbreak it using limera1n.

After the jailbreaking process is complete, do not forget to checkout our article on tips to keep your iPod Touch secure.

Please ensure you are running iTunes 9.2 or later.
Step 1: Download the latest version of limera1n from this link and save the application on your desktop.
Step 2: Double click on the limera1n exe to launch the application.
Step 3: Please ensure that your iPod Touch is connected to the computer.
Step 4: Click on the "make it rain” button.
Step 5: You will see that limera1n puts your iPod Touch in recovery mode. Immediately after this, follow the instructions.
Step 6: Limera1n will be prompt you to press both the home and power buttons.
Step 7: Limera1n will be then prompt you to release the Power button. Continue to press the home button.
Step 8: You will see that limera1n has put your iPod Touch in DFU mode. Continue to press the home button.
Step 9: While limera1n performs the exploit, you will see the limera1n logo on your iPod Touch.
Step 10: When limera1n has successfully jailbroken your iPod Touch, you will see “done” and get the following message.
Step 11: You need to restart your iPod Touch. You will notice that there is a new app called limera1n installed on your iPod Touch.
Step 12: Launch the limera1n app to install Cydia on your iPod Touch. Select Cydia and tap on the Install button to download and install it.
Step 13: After Cydia has been installed, reboot your iPod Touch.
Step 14: You should find Cydia on your iPod Touch’s homescreen. If you want you can launch the limera1n app to uninstall it.

Worked for me, except after installing Cydia/respring, it was not on the home screen. Reboot and it was available.

Jb works like a charm, But if you find your self not getting it to work, Try doing it with Itunes open. IT work for me twice that way, with an Iphone 4 and a 3GS. Just open Itunes then Maki it Rain.
If you read anything Geohot has posted, he said he's working on the fixes for the 3GS…..

hey i got an iphone 4 4.0.2 with sim lock, its modem firmware is 01.59.00, its locked by at&t so if i jailbreak it with limera1n can i use ultrasn0w and unlock it, and use it with my operator?

I had issues installing LimeRa1n on my iPhone 3GS (New Bootrom) where it would never show the limera1n icon. I tried the reboot as suggested and even attempted to redo the limera1n as administrator without success.
I have a 64-bit version of Windows 7 and it doesn't work!!!
BUT…….. I attempted to install via a 32-bit version of Windows 7 without any issues! The limera1n icon appeared and I was able to launch it and install cydia.
For those having issues where the limera1n icon is not appearing, attempt to install on a 32-bit version of Windows.

Worked 100% for my iphone 4 4.0.2. I do not need to upgrade my iphone to 4.1, because it would change the BASEBAND to another one and sometime is not possible to unlock.It is very easy to jailbreak. I jailbroken 2 of my iphone 4. I jailbreak with Window XP and the iTune version 9.2…. I don't trust the itune's firmware 10.1. I think it might mess up during the process. Believe me 100% work.

Not working on Ipod touch 3G Model MC086LL Firmware version 4.1 (8B117). Limera1n detects that its connected, I follow all on screen instructions exactly. It finishes telling me its jailbroken, but when I reboot, no sign of limera1n icon. Also, limera1n logo doesn't show up during jailbreak, just apples. I'm wondering if anyone's having the same problem. If it wasn't so easy and I hadn't tried it a few times I'd think it was me, but I don't think so. Anyone who knows of a solution, your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

i tried this but when it went into recovery mode itunes came up saying "recovery mode detected you must restore your device before any further use is possible" how to i get round this or am i just being niave and could exit that the whole time

The same thing happened to me. I may have gotten a little frustrated at more than a few failed attempts and disconnected the usb during jailbreak exploit installation. I tried rebooting but that didn't work. Next I ran the jailbreak again and brought it out of recovery mode, but the jailbreak was still unsuccessful. That may or may not help you, but its worth a try, don't think it'll hurt anything, good luck.

all of us are using 4.1 and its not working we rebooted multiple times as you can read and nothing shows up and it says its jailbroken correctly.

I am having the same problem. I am on 4.1 ios, MC Model. I have tried it multiple times and the same result happens. The Limera1n says it has jailbroken my ipod touch 3g but when restarted, (because it's left in recovery mode) the limera1n app does not show up. Plz help !
if your having issues try different pc had no luck on virtual running xp but actual sony vaio running xp worked hope helps people.
