Apple seeded developers of its iOS Developer Program with iOS 4.2 GM version earlier in the week.
The Golden Master (GM) version means that it is the shipping version of the software that developers must use to develop and submit iOS apps that are compatible with iOS 4.2.
Apple has already started approving Game Center, multitasking enabled iPad apps to the App Store.
Based on previous releases, it is widely speculated that Apple will release iOS 4.2 to users sometime this week.
Folks at 9to5Mac are reporting that Apple will release iOS 4.2 either on Tuesday, November 9th or on Friday, November 12th.
They have received the conflicting information from two German websites, Inside-Handy.de and iFun.
Inside-Handy.de claim that they have received information from Deutsche Telekom representatives.
While, iFun have discovered that Apple will be pushing out some carrier updates on November 12th, which indicates that iOS 4.2 will be released on the same day.
As you can see from the screenshot below, the URL of the carrier update reveals that it will be released on November 12th.
It’s all speculation at this stage. 9to5Mac goes on to add:
We are certainly skeptical of this information as carrier-representatives may not be the best source of information as Apple makes the iOS release dates, not them. On the other hand November 9th is a Tuesday as well as the Droid Pro’s launch date – Apple would surely love to rain on Android’s parade. We are also skeptical about the November 12th report because Apple pushing out European carrier updates next Friday could just be some coincidence, like in the past. Also, this may mean a November 9th launch of Mac OS X 10.6.5 as that version of Mac OS X is required for AirPrint printing on iOS. Oh, and iTunes 10.1 should be making an appearance on iOS 4.2′s launch date too.

IOS 4.2 will be on November 9, the reason is Motorola is releasing the Droid Pro and Apple will want to steal their thunder. This is a big update with AirPlay & AirPrint which I cant wait for as this opens the door for the Apple TV 2.

I hear that. I've got a brand new 4 sitting at home with 4.1 and bb 2.4.10 that I can't do anything with at the moment. Need to get that baby unlocked & jailbroken soon or I"m going to go nuts. Hopefully the Dev team will get it done.
I suppose it could just as well be released on the 10th or 13th? No?
I know its frustrating for all of us waiting for the unlock but it looks very much like its just around the corner now apposed to weeks or months away. Frustrating as it is lets be a little more patient lads. It would be suicidal for the dev team to bring the unlock out before 4.2 update. You would for sure have something to whine about if apple got there grubby hands on the unlock before the release of 4.2.

my itunes 10 says that it my firmware is updated and will try to look again for an update by the 16th, (I'm from the Philippines). May be it'll be by then. But I'm with the majority hoping that the bb unlock will be ushered in one or two days later by the iphone dev team.

Itunes atomatically checks for update for ios every week or so… so it isnt exactly the release date. It will check a week after the 16th aswell
