As Apple announced previously, iOS 4.2 (or iOS 4.2.1) for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch is now available in iTunes (though some users had reported that it was available to them earlier).
Steve Jobs had given a glimpse of some of the new features in iOS 4.2 at the September 1 special event.
iOS 4.2 brings the following new features:

iOS 4 features such as multitasking, folders, Game Centre for iPad users.

AirPrint: Apple’s Wirelessly printing technology

It will also bring the AirPlay feature to iDevices, which will allow you to stream video, music, and photos over Wi-Fiespecially useful if you have the second generation Apple TV.
The beta versions of iOS 4.2 have revealed the following hidden features:

The screen orientation lock switch on the iPad has now been repurposed to serve as the mute switch

New fonts for Notes app

New Settings option

New Default Lockscreen Keyboard

Allow you to search for text on a web page in Mobile Safari

Allows users to set text tones to individual contacts

Developers had observed speed improvements and more reliability in iOS 4.2 for iPad

Game Center compatibility indicators added to the App Store app

YouTube app that comes pre-installed on the iDevices will finally allow users to upload a video as public, private or unlisted

Enable/Disable alert sounds for New Mail, Sent Mail, Calendar Alerts, Lock Sounds, Keyboard Clicks for iPad users

Apple has also announced with the iOS 4.2 software update, they are making the Find my iPhone service free for all iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch users.
iOS 4.2 software update is compatible with the following devices:
• iPhone 4
• iPhone 3GS
• iPhone 3G
• iPod touch 2nd generation, or later
Users who want to jailbreak and unlock their iPhone should avoid upgrading to iOS 4.2 and wait for iPhone Dev Team, Chronic Dev team and/or Geohot to release updated versions of their hacking tools for iOS 4.2.
But if you don’t care about jailbreaking or unlocking your iPhone then connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to your computer and click on the "Check for Update" button from the device summary page in iTunes to download the iOS 4.2 software update.

iPod touch 3rd generation lags when you are moving icons around and hit the home button. Other than that, works fine.

i just updated my iphone 4 to 4.2. has anyone noticed that you can't access your ipod's songs. it keeps saying that i can purchase songs on itunes but i checked my about screen in my settings and it says all my songs are there.
