Norway based Elliptic Labs is working on a touchless gesture user interface for Apple’s iPad called Mimesign. The technology, which is similar to that seen on Microsoft’s Kinect will allow users to control various functions of the iPad – without actually having to touch the screen.
They already seem to have a prototype ready, which they would be demoing at the CES 2011 that kicks off early next month.
Folks at RedmondPie have made a pretty interesting discovery. They are speculating that the next version of jailbreak software from George Hotz, more popularly known as GeoHot, could be named Rubyra1n. GeoHot has released easy to use tools to jailbreak and unlock iPhone like blackra1n, limera1n and blacksn0w that have been very popular.
This revelation comes from the WhoIs records for the domain name Rubyra1n.com that shows George Hotz as the registered owner.
iPhone Dev Team has just released Redsn0w 0.9.7b4, which eliminates the need to install and run a separate program for usbmux.
iPhone Dev Team had released Redsn0w 0.9.7b1 over the weekend that implements the “backup plan” for iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4,iPad and iPod touch 4G, which is currently meant only for beta testers.
A fortnight after it first arrived, the Quick Snap – Camera Plus application, which allowed iPhone users to activate the camera shutter by pressing the volume buttons has been removed from the App Store.
The approval of the iPhone app seemed to be an error by Apple’s App Store review staff as it clearly violated Apple’s policy of disallowing app developers to remap the hardware buttons on its devices. Apple has had a history of yanking apps that have managed to do this in the past.
Taiwan based publication Digtimes is reporting that Apple is expected to release three different versions of the next generation Apple iPad – including a CDMA version.
Digitimes claims that according to “industry sources”, the mass production of all three versions will start in the later half of January 2011. Apple has initially kept a ratio of 3:4:3 for Wi-Fi, UMTS and the CDMA versions of the iPad respectively.
Skype has just released a new version of their iPhone app that finally brings video calling feature to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4g users can make 2-way video calls while iPod Touch 3G and iPad users can receive video calls. Users can also call Skype desktop users from their iDevices.
Various news reports over the past few months have hinted at the imminent arrival of the CDMA iPhone on Verizon. Now, according to a new report on Bloomberg Businessweek, Apple could be holding a special media event “by Valentine’s Day” to unveil the new Verizon iPhone to customers.
The report does not provide specific dates although it notes that the announcement is likely to be made after the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that is scheduled to be held between January 6-9, 2011.
Japanese Mac blog, Macotakara had come up with some interesting details regarding the next generation iPad last week. The website had claimed that according to their anonymous Chinese sources, iPad 2 could be equipped with a wide-range speaker that shall be positioned at the rear bottom of the device.
You might recall that folks at Electronista had backed these claims with pictures of a few iPad 2 cases that suggested similar features.

A former RIM employee revealed that RIM, maker of BlackBerry panicked when Apple unveiled iPhone at MacWorld 2007. RIM apparently held several all-hands meetings the day after the iPhone was unveiled.
In fact, according to the former employee, RIM, maker of BlackBerry smartphones thought that Apple was lying about the iPhone as they couldn’t believe that iPhone with its large touchscreen could have a usable battery life.
