Dev Team Will Release Redsn0w For iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Over Christmas Weekend; Looking For Testers

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 for iPhone 3G - Redsn0w

We had reported yesterday that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 by Comex may not be released before Christmas.

But iPhone Dev team is on track and has announced that it is planning to release a new version of Redsn0w that implements the “backup plan” for iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak over the Christmas weekend.

However, before Redsn0w is released to the public, it is looking for testers to check out the latest version of Redsn0w. iPhone dev team has issued the following statement:

Over the Christmas weekend we’ll be releasing a version of redsn0w that implements the “backup plan” to the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak.  We’re seeking your help to test this redsn0w and find any bugs before we do a general release!

(If you have an iPhone 3G, or an old-bootrom ipt2g or iPhone 3GS, you already have an untethered jailbreak!  Just use the latest public redsn0w.)

To keep things manageable, this will be a Mac-only test program.  We also request that any volunteers *NOT* need the ultrasn0w unlock (in case things go very wrong).

Right now, the “backup plan” requires that you have the 4.2b3 IPSW on yourMac, and that Cydia has your 4.2b3 SHSH hashes.  Please don’t pirate that 4.2b3 IPSW!  (We’re also working on a way that this technique might apply to all those with 4.1 IPSWs, but that’s not the first goal right now.)

      The unlock is out already look on youtube for videos on how to unlock it if you want untether JB use the current RS to unlock and JB you device

    I’m running 4.1 right now and Cydia tells me that it has my SHSH blob for 4.2.1? I guess that’s normal because it has said that it has my 4.2b3 blob for a while now. Anyway, the 4.2.1 is new to me.

    I never comment these but I am amazed by all of the people who obviously lead such entitled lives they feel they need to be demanding and downright GNASTY because they can’t get FREE software mods that actual people spend their time to crack and release…again for FREE! Instead of complaining, learn to code and jailbreak your phone yourself! Geez, I hate ungrateful people.

    Thank you to all on the dev teams who make all of this possible for us. I have iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 (because I’m impatient and had to see the new features for myself) but I upgraded knowing that very soon, thanks to the awesome developers, I will be able to jailbreak again.

    But i do understand your frustration, the dev team has messed us about a lot. First, they failed unlock 4.1 then keep delaying jb for 4.2.

    Giving us false promises….

    And still more delays……

    Here is a question that I cannot seem to get a straight fix on regardless of how much I read.
    I am currently on 4.0.1 on both of my phones, is it possible to update them to 4.2.0 and still get an untethered jailbreak? Is it even possible to update to 4.2.0 if I download the firmware, and point to it from iTunes, is apple still signing, or can I get my own blob and sign it? (really not sure how that works). It seems like 4.2.1 only was a fix to the untethered solution, so how can I get 4.2.0 on these phones, or am I completely wrong, and that firmware is bad too, or cannot be jail broken, etc…
    Anyone that can point me to a site, or blog, etc that can give me the answers would be great, or maybe if you know, you could tell me, and then others who read this thread can learn without asking.
