Next Jailbreak Tool From GeoHot Could Be Called Rubyra1n

George Hotz next jailbreak exploit

Folks at RedmondPie have made a pretty interesting discovery. They are speculating that the next version of jailbreak software from George Hotz, more popularly known as GeoHot, could be named Rubyra1n. GeoHot has released easy to use tools to jailbreak and unlock iPhone like blackra1n, limera1n and blacksn0w that have been very popular.

This revelation comes from the WhoIs records for the domain name Rubyra1n.com that shows George Hotz as the registered owner.

For the uninitiated, WhoIs records are a public database of registered domain name owners. In the present case, the registration details for Rubyra1n.com match with those of Blackra1n.com; another domain name owned by GeoHot. However, details of limera1n.com are different and it is likely that GeoHot modified these details after news about him coming up with limera1n got out.

Another interesting revelation from these records is the date of registration of these domain names. RedmondPie points out that both Limera1n.com and Rubyra1n.com were registered on the same date – March 27, 2010. It is probable that GeoHot considered using Rubyra1n before opting for the Limera1n name for the jailbreaking tool that was released for iOS 4.1. In any case, we expect Rubyra1n to be one of the probable names for GeoHot’s next jailbreaking tool.

It is worth noting that WhoIs records are not always authentic and these domain name ownership details and can be gamed. However, given that both Rubyra1n.com and Limera1n.com were registered on the same day, chances for the records to be fudged are pretty low in this case.

Here are the domain registration details obtained from the WhoIs database.

Unfortunately, after releasing limera1n for iOS 4.1, GeoHot has again disappeared from the iPhone jailbreaking scene. It will be interesting to see when he makes an appearance again.

What do you think?
