iPhone 5 Will Be Completely Redesigned, Come With Multi-Core Processor; iPad 2 To Come With High Resolution Screen, SD Card Slot & Cameras

Engadget is reporting that they have got some “concrete information” on the next generation iPad, the next generation iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 5 and next generation Apple TV from a “reliable source”.

iPad 2:

According to Engadget, iPad 2 will come with a “super high resolution” screen like iPhone 4’s gorgeous retina display.

The screen size is expected to remain the same but it will come with front and rear cameras.

According to Engadget’s reliable source, iPad will also get a SD card slot. The current version of iPad does not come with an SD card slot although users can utilize the $29 camera connection kitto transfer photos from an SD card to the iPad.

Apple is expected to launch iPad 2 towards the end of March or early April.

iPhone 5:

Engadget claims that in iPhone 5, Apple will use the dual GSM/CDMA chipsets produced by Qualcomm instead of the Infineon chipset used in the GSM iPhone 4. This will allow Apple to support dual-modes allowing for both Verizon and AT&T compatibility in the same iPhone model rather than producing two different models to support GSM and CDMA networks respectively.

According to Engadget’s source, iPhone 5 will be completely redesigned. Apple may use a Cortex A9-based multicore processor (to be dubbed the Apple A5) instead of the current Apple A4 processor, which is a single-core Cortex A8 processor.

Apple is expected to launch iPhone 5 in the summer.

Apple TV:

Apple may use the Cortex A9-based multicore processor in the next generation Apple TV (2011 model) as well.

We can’t wait to see the next generation iPad and iPhone? What about you?

Sweet, sounds pretty cool. Let’s see what apple roles out next.

  2. Ryan says:

    Speculative nonsense.

  3. Dustin says:

Well lets see, im gonna guess they do like every time. The Motorola Atrix 4G has the dual core processor, a gig of ram, 8MP camera, but it had a 4.3 in screen. Apple will most definitly match these specs also.

  4. fas says:

iPhone 5 wont have a redesign, it will be the same as the 4 plus some more features.

    • DrunkMunki says:

unlikely with the current issues with the iPhone4, screen and button issues, antennae issues… unlike most of you i never buy a new model out of the gate (i actually have patience), i wait to see what issues it has before committing, so since apple has learned its lessons, iPhone5 should be pretty good.

  5. D3@tH says:

    That’s amazing :D :D

  6. Jimmy says:

Hmmmmm tegra2 based phones will kill the new iPhone……

  7. Mario says:

Didn’t they just report the resolution was the same as the 1st iPad ? Which is true huh? Well here’s another rumor it’s gonna bake fucking cookies for you… These are just the same rumors over and over

  8. Phil says:

What about the iPod touch 5?

  9. Crazy Asylum says:

intriguing, too bad apple is no longer at the front of the pack as it must now play catch up to other mobile phone companies who bring out 10 – 15 handsets a year and have a lot more leg room to improve on what they have already released. With companies such as Motorola their handsets actually compete against each other, apple may soon have difficulty having only one player.

    • Jason says:

But apple does a good job of kicking their asses with just one phone, or in this years case, two phones per every year.

  10. iLynk says:

I doubt a redesign only because apple loves to milk everyone for their money but I have to say I love their products.

  11. shrug says:

anyone else struggle to see the point of multicore processing in the iphone?

i can understand it on a computer or ipad, where multitasking is much more prevalent. however with the iphone, i suspect it will just drain the battery for very little to no benefit.

    • pacomac says:

We are already pushing the single core A4 processor to its limits on the iPad/iPhone so the next step is multi-core as upping the clock speed of a single core would gobble the battery and require cooling.

If the iPad has a bigger screen then this is gonna slow the device down unless we get extra processing power from somewhere!

P.S. I’ve released 3 iPad and 2 iPhone apps so I know what I’m talking about.

      • shrug says:

its strange to think that upping the core speed would produce so much more heat and drain battery life…. but adding a second core will not?

i assume the benefit would be able to park the second core when not in use.

however taking advantage of the second core in apps will be a challenge. you’ve developed iphone apps, but how much parallel processing have you worked on?

i’m very keen to see more information about the specs of the A8 processor, but as a skeptic, i’m yet to be convinced…. i’m sure “His Steven-ness” will convince me sooner or later.

  12. sai says:

    save money for new idivices.

  13. xero14 says:

NO way there going to have an iphone 5 for vorizon come out 4 months after they get i4 that would piss off a lot of people

  14. ROCKY says:

And the Xmas untethered jailbreak is where?

  15. midkidd says:

It would piss people off but its something apple has done before

  16. RobDupre says:

is there any news about a change to multicore processor or increased Ram within the IPad, im eager to buy one but think that the power difference between ipad and the blackberry contender is too much to ignor!

  17. The Dude says:

WHEN IS T-MOBILE GETTING A FRIGGIN IPHONE!

  18. OrangeUKLover says:

T-mobile ALREADY has iPhones, in Europe, that is. So maybe T-mobile in the USA will obtain one in a few years.

  19. original says:

I can see the benefits of having a simultaneous gsm/cdma chipset for production purposes, but won’t that add unnecessary bulk to the final product?

  20. kiddowiddo says:

Im not bothered about a new iphone anymore, i want apple to work on their iOS and improve it. With all the companies offering things like live widgets on the homescreen, the iphones’s page of icons seems old fashioned and boring now. Im no expert on OS’s but I reckon apple could do a great job on making a brand new improved one.

  21. penny says:

now to get the iphone 4 in March when my AT&T contract is up or wait till the summer to see iphone 5 will come out… my 3G is a bit worn out..

  22. I have had the iphone for years, but if they don’t let me use flash, I’m gonna have to switch. It seems that they could work out the differences with adobe.
