Verizon’s Media Event Coverage

verizon iphone

Verizon’s media event should be underway shortly.

Based on all the rumors and speculations, we expect Verizon to announce CDMA iPhone on its network.

Verizon’s media event is being held at the Lincoln Center in New York City at 11:00 AM ET, or less than 15 minutes from now.

Updates will be posted from top to bottom (bottom newest) so stay tuned (hit refresh to get the latest).

Here are some of the rumors and speculations we've heard so far:

The event is about to begin.

Lowell Macadam is on stage and he is talking about a big announcement.

Have you been waiting for Verizon to launch the iPhone? We would love to find out so drop us a line in the comments.

He is currently talking about Verizon and its achievements.

"Today we're partnering with a giant of the industry, and that's Apple." Verizon iPhone is here folks!

Verizon has just announced iPhone 4 on its network and it will be available early next month.

Tim Cook is on stage and he should be providing more details on Verizon iPhone 4.

Verizon iPhone 4 will work on CDMA network just as it was rumored.

CDMA iPhone 4 has all the features of GSM iPhone 4 such as FaceTime, retina display, 5-megapixel camera, HD video, custom A4 chip etc (as one would expect).

Dan Dee of Verizon is talking about how Verizon has prepared for the launch of Apple's iPhone by building additional capacity to handle the load.

Existing Verizon customers will be able to pre-order CDMA iPhone 4 from February 3rd and everyone else will be able to order online, in stores or in Apple stores on February 10th.

$199 for the 16GB, $299 for 32GB -- mobile hotspot included! Up to 5 devices. That's interesting, it means that Apple will be releasing an iOS Software update for the mobile hotspot feature. Verizon's another major selling point.

The Q&A session has started.

Q: Will it be on a one year refresh cycle?

Tim: We don't comment on that.

Q: Why didn't you go the LTE route?

Tim: Two reasons -- the first gen LTW chipsets force design changes we wouldn't make. And Verizon customers told us they want the iPhone now. I can't tell you the number of times we've been asked when will it work on Verizon.

Q: Is the CDMA iPhone exclusive to Verizon?

Tim: It's a multi-year, non exclusive deal.

Q: What changes if any have been made to the antenna.

Tim: We had to make changes to work on the CDMA network -- it's going to work great.

Dan: We do not see a problem with that (probably referring to the iPhone 4 antennagate).

Q: What happens when you're on a call and need to use data?

Dan: Same as a CDMA device.

(So CDMA iPhone 4 users won't be able to use data related apps while on a call just as we had speculated. It has been considered as one of the deal breakers for few users.)

Q: Experience is so paramount at Apple... GSM allows data and voice... how does that experience feel here?

Tim: I think people place different emphasis on things -- I can tell you that the number one question I've gotten is when will the iPhone work on Verizon. I couldn't be happier to tell people that. They will make those sorts of tradeoffs.

(Its a valid point, how many of you think it is a deal breaker.)

Q: Any new capabilities compared to GSM version?

A: Hotspot is new.

Q: When will we see LTE version?

Cook: No comment.

Q: Coming to indirect sales channels?

Cook: Yes, but not at first...Verizon and Apple only at first.

Q: More questions about lack of simultaneous voice and data and whether that will be disappointment for users.

Cook: It's all about getting it on Verizon. The customers who want it there will be willing to make the trade-off.

That's the end of the event folks, hope you enjoyed the coverage and you were not disappointed by the announcement. Verizon iPhone is finally here. Do you plan to get one?

I’m not gonna lie. I’m sticking with AT&T… Maybe the masses who switch will unclog AT&T’s network

    • Get Off says:

you’re no better than a guy that goes on a mac site and writes that android and pc are better than mac’s platforms.

you click on “verizon media event coverage” and write your sticking with at&t. i don’t believe anyone benefited from that comment and think this whole site has now gotten stupider just for that post.

    • James says:

I actually agree with you, and to the guy below me who criticized the one above….I came on this article to see if it will be true, as I will stick with ATT cause all the people that hate ATT will leave to Verizon, then ATT will be faster, cause it already is faster than Verizon, just Verizon has more signal in more areas.

  2. peter the great says:

    I’m sticking with AT&T….

  3. Israelfox says:

    Verizon….. Blow Meeee!!!!!!!!!!
Am staying with At&t n my iphone 4

  4. Njh3409 says:

Sticking with Att! I had verizon and went back to Att after 8 months and pai the fees. The grass is never as green as it looks from the other side.

Ok people ,read : Just got off the phone with AT&T
bought a new iPhone 4g from Radio Shack which only cost me $48.00 with there Xmas promotion, then grabbed the iPhone 3gs 8g from Best Buy. I had the the unlimited plan from my iPhone 3gs 16g that I traded n to Radio Shack, the Best Buy iPhones had the 900 m unlimited text and 2gig data plan, called AT&T this morning and told them I was dropping the iPhone 3Gs 8g from Best Buy because I was still in my 30days to get out, because Verizon has the unlimited data for $30.00 rep says hold on, sir we will offer you the same plan that you have on your iPhone 4 on your iPhone 3gs and still let you be eligible for the new iPhone 5 coming out in “MAY” thats right she said MAY of 2011, then she tells me all the iPhones will be going on sale in February 2011 couldn’t get her to give me a date, so now I have unlimited every thing on all my phones for $197.00 + tax and upgrade to iPhone 5 so if you use this little trick maybe you to can get the unlimited plan , and there is not a cap (let me rephrase that 60gig cap) then they start looking at you, so give it a shot

  6. Andrew says:

nice job on the help mrklean01 coming in may hell yes!!!

  7. Dan says:

I don’t care about AT&T or Verizon cause I don’t live in the States. When that is said I think it’s good that there are two companies now to choose between for the US users. However I don’t get the idea that you can’t use apps with data while you are using the phone for a call. For me it seems like a compromise to get it to work on a different network besides AT&T. But just so you know you are lucky when it comes to the answering machine. You can see the calls so you don’t have to listen to every message. I can’t do that with my operator here in Denmark. Also you can combine calls and that’s also one of the things we are missing here where I live. The good thing though is that the longest contract we have here is 6 months and not 24. Because of that I can upgrade every year with no worries

  14. King says:

Anyone notice that on apple.com the verizon iPhone picture has the black antenna line above the volume buttons on the left side? Maybe verizon will not have an antenna gate issue?

  15. 60GIG? says:

Wait! Who cares about Verizon vs. ATT. What I got out of all the coversations above (perticularly from what mrklean01 said) is that the unlimited data plan that I have (with ATT) is really capped at 60 GIG? is that true? why call it unlimited? (not that I ever use that, but what if I do one day?)

  16. Tom says:

Hello, could anyone tell me what verzion is? btw i’m not just thick i live in the UK

  17. King says:

    So many unanswered questions….

Will apple release factory unlock codes to it’s devices via iTunes now that exclusitivity is up? Apple made a bad move giving verizon the right to this announcement. They did a terrible job

Iphonehacks, you’re the best, call up apple and get the scoop.

  18. dc says:

does anybody know if the hotspot (wireless hotspot) will be included in the unlimited plan or do we need to pay extra for it? Thanks for any replies.

  19. Dean says:

who anwer all this with out read.spec iphone4 has cdma chip
    not iphone 5
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

  20. Dean says:

all iphone4 well work with verizon

  21. Goose says:

You guys missed the best part. It comes with built in Wifi Hotspot that means it’s theoretically possible on iOS 4 without MYWI. I wonder how long until the jailbreak community comes out with this really cool hack.

  22. Gumby says:

So if I’m watching my Netflix app I can’t use the phone or text?

    • not even says:

ya thats whats happening…no data and phone…no txt and phone…nothing simultaneous things when your on the phone!

  23. fas says:

This will benefit the iPhone community at large.

  24. James says:

Will there be simultaneous data and voice if you are on WiFi??????

    So many unanswered questions

  25. Jack says:

This an epic FAIL. Rushing ANY product out due to demand and offering less features is really, really stupid.

    Can you hear me now?
    No?
    Oh my Safari is running…

  26. ryderbear says:
