Chronic Dev Team has finally released greenpois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G and iPad.
The jailbreak is untethered and doesn’t need iOS 4.2 beta 3 SHSH blobs to be saved like iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w 0.9.7, which is currently available for beta testing.
greenpois0n RC5 is currently available only for Mac users. p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team has mentioned that the Windows version will be released soon.
greenpois0n needs iOS 4.2.1 installed on your iOS device for it to work, so if you need to software unlock your iPhone then you should not upgrade to iOS 4.2.1.
greenpois0n for Mac supports the following iOS iDevices:
- iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G
- iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G
- iPad
greenpois0n does not support hactivation, so your iPhone needs to be hactivated via iTunes.
Please note that jailbreaking your iDevice may void its warranty so proceed with caution and at your own risk. Please don’t forget to backup your iPhone before you proceed. You can refer to this post for instructions on how to backup your iPhone.

Greenpois0n recommends a clean restore before continuing (it's not ideal).

You won't see Cydia after jailbreaking is complete, you need to restart your iPhone and launch the new Loader application to install Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone.

If you don't see Cydia in the Loader app when you launch it then you can install it using Redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 6 (download link) from Dev Team blog just tick Cydia and don't use the Monte option.

I’m still on 4.1 with my iP4 and might just set aside my day off tomorrow and do this. It’s just such a pain for mento get everything back how it was since I always “restore as new” when upgrading firmwares to avoid complications. Wish me luck.
Is anyone able to help? No matter what program to jailbreak my phone I download, from limera1n to now greenpois0n, I am not even able to try it out, etc…I keep getting an error saying

You need to download something that allows you to open .zip files. Normally Mac OS X allows you to do that automatically. Look for something like Stuffit Expander, I think it is.
depends if your using an intel or PPC mac system, i dont think the software supports PPC anymore since its been phased out by Apple a while ago.

Ha me either! Engadget said it was rushed.. I think I will stick with my tethered Jailbreak for another 2 weeks for the bugs to get fixed… that is, if there are any. I’ve only had to tether boot my phone 2 times since I jailbroke it a month ago… it’s really not that bad.

Yup, so if you depend on software unlocking your iPhone then you should avoid upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

2nd installed loader, However when trying to install Cydia I get (NSURLError Domain Error -1100) I dont have a wifi connection where I am just 3g so it might be that or domain is down, I will try when I have a WIFI and update progress….

Sounds like your all having problems! I’ll stick with my tethered jailbreak, I never switch my phone off anyway, so it’s never bothered me!

IF you are having trouble with loader and not being able to install Cydia because of all the traffic trying to do the same thing, just download the latest version of redsn0w and follow the instructions and check the “Install Cydia” box only and it will save you a lot of time waiting for GP’s servers to get you Cydia
If you select install cydia it will jailbreak your phone the redsn0w way and install cydia. You can’t just install cydia

you can’t.
redsn0w is the tethered jb option. i think the idea is to use redsn0w to install cydia then GP to make it untethered.
actually i take that back, it is possible but you need to preserve the baseband. if the baseband gets updated, you’ll be stuck and unable to unlock.

Tried it three time already. The third time did a clean restore as I read that was the way to go. It got stuck on the black verbose screen anyways, though. Seems like everyone is having an issue with this release.
also, if you get the greenpois0n initialized screen & nothing happens just use recboot…
GreenPois0n site is currently down. Wait until it’s back up and retry break and it should be error free. GP’s site / server is used to relay Cydia install. So that is probably the issue you are having.

Run Mac OS with VMware and then run the program or install Mac OS on a PC (neither of the two are simple). Do a google search for how to achieve this

I have Snow Leaperd install on an AMD machine with ati 5770 video card. Works great. Look around newer installers work great. Pretty easy to do.

GreenP0ison is shit. Bottom line. MuscleNerd, Comex, and GeoHot are the only true jailbreakers. The folks at Greenp0ison must have been smoking too much weed when they put this piece of shit out.

I have an iPhone 4 with jailbroken 4.1 on it. Are there any real advantages to upgrading to 4.2 other than the free MobileMe option to find your phone if lost? I am not a gamer.
i just went for it on my iphone 4 and it worked,now got a custom logo on startup,the loader didn’t work so i had to download the latest Redsn0w and only ticked install cydia,its untethered and has no problems!
Once you have used GP download redsn0w and install cydia works 110%. Servers are getting hammered thats why you can’t install cydia and only get the loader icon.

you need RC5 which is mac only, rc4 is not for 4.2.1

now I can

the 1st time got sucked on greenp0ison initialized (on phone screen) , so I turned off the phone , turned on again in DFU , retried the JB , and this time all worked great .
