iPad 2 Will Be Thinner, Get Faster A5 Processor, Double RAM But Won’t Get High Resolution Display, SD Card Slot

iPad 2

It has been speculated that iPad 2 could come with super high resolution 2048*1536 display and a SD card slot that Apple is expected to release at March 2nd’s media event.

Engadget reports that super high resolution display and the SD card slot won’t make it to the new iPad.

Engadget reports:

Notably, that SD card slot and higher resolution display won't make it into the new model (the latter we'd been hearing rumblings about for a little while). What's the cause of the switch? Well our sources weren't crystal clear on the exact reasons, but the gist of what was explained to us centered around vague "engineering issues" which may have forced some changes at the eleventh hour.

Engadget claims that according to their sources, the reason for the last minute changes was due to some “vague engineering issues”.

However, according to Engadget, as rumored, iPad 2 will be thinner than the current generation iPad and come with a faster processor (A5) with more RAM (512MB).

John Gruber of Daring Fireball who has a good track record insists that there has been no last minute changes. He writes:

Eleventh hour, my ass. Nothing in these regards has changed in the iPad 2 since January. Nothing. There was never going to be a higher resolution display in the iPad 2. I’d wager heavily that there was never going to be an SD card slot for it, either, but I don’t know that.

Though the SD card is not such a big deal as users can purchase the $29 camera connection kit to transfer photos from an SD card to the iPad, the news of iPad 2 not getting the super high resolution would disappoint some of readers as it would have convince them to upgrade or buy the second generation iPad.

Will you buy or upgrade to the next generation iPad without the super high resolution display and SD Card slot? Let us know in the comments section below.

SD card is a big deal as carrying camera kit is not easy.

  2. jdb says:

The higher resolution would be nice, but not necessary I don’t believe. If it’s not here by iPad 3, however, I think Apple would be making a mistake.

We are forgetting that apple makes subtle changes in their product. Which in return holds the value of their older product. SD will never show up on any idevices because it leave a big gap for alterations, which apple doesn’t like seeing

All these rumors are killing me. And now i heard some iPad 3 is coming in September or so. How different it going to be from iPad 2? Is it much more better or just so so? Is it coming at all? Want to have some device which will last for at least 3 years. This way I never get one, man.

  5. Caddouch says:

Forget that shit, am not buying , thanks

  6. Stools says:

Thinner, faster is nice and all but without either/or SD and HR display, there’s no reason to upgrade.

  7. fingers21 says:

I’m still buying. iPad display is pretty good anyway and never found a need for sd slot personally.

Roll on the release date. Providing it has front face camera with facetime, i’ll be happy!

Ipad S I’m guessing will be the name of this ipad!
Ipad 2 will be the name on september, just like they did with the iphone…

  9. steve says:

im getting a wifi xoom when that comes out.. screw the ipad2 if there is no SD card slot or higher res display.

  10. Danjo says:

It doesn’t have to be retina but 1024×768 is too small.

  11. abdullah says:

I guess there would be no reason to change

  12. D3@tH says:

    Probably no…

  13. Simon Cowell says:

The only people that would upgrade there IPad every time a new one comes out are either A:) Apple Fanboys B:) Don’t have to pay for it C:) have more money than sence or D:) To stupid to know better. If the thing does what you want, isn’t broken or isn’t asking for your credit card every time you turn it on keep it for a few years before upgrading cause if you don’t you’ll be caught up in the vicious cycle of Corp greed. Just my two cents. So I believe that’s a no from me.
