Whenever we have asked you, our readers what was on your wish list for iPhone 5 – Apple’s fifth generation iPhone that is expected to be released this summer, some of you have told us that you want an iPhone 5 with 4-inch screen.
If you’re one of them then we have some good news for you. Taiwanese publication DigiTimes claims that iPhone 5 will come with a 4-inch screen.
DigiTimes reports:
The component suppliers noted that the production lines for Apple's next generation iPhone have begun testing, and Apple is interesting in expanding the screen size to 4-inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.
We believe that the 3.5-inch screen of the iPhone is perfect but Apple is seeing growing competition from Android phones such as Samsung Galaxy S that have 4-inch screen and is seen as a unique selling point. So it is possible that Apple may be considering releasing an iPhone with a 4-inch screen. However, it will be a pain for developers to develop apps for different screen sizes, they already have to deal with an iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch. We’re also hearing that Apple is working on a smaller and cheaper iPhone, which may come with edge to edge screen. DigiTimes also has a patchy track record when it comes to Apple related rumors.
Folks at 9 to 5 Mac have also created a mockup of iPhone with a 4-inch screen to show how it may look.

hard to decide but i think that 3.5 its ok for me and the ipad screen should have retina
iPad won’t get retina, it’s too costly and would kill performance on it. People don’t understand that the iPad would need a very high resolution to be “retina” and would increase the price, decrease the performance (due to rendering much more), and it’s just not beneficial.
What about a 3.75 screen. It looks like the 4.0 screen would be hard to protect with cases.
Because with out my Otterbox , I wouldn’t even have a functioning iPhone anyway as much as i abuse mine.

For all of you who don’t like the 4.0 inch screen, you don’t have to buy one.
Its not going to be 3.75 or 3.63, like it at 4inch or don’t buy one.
Honestly, I can’t see how the screen could come to the edge like that. The case thing is right. Hard to grip maybe. I assume that the pic above was done on Photoshop or something.
I’d prefer retina display on the iPad than a larger sceen on the iPhone. Plus, if the apps need to be revamped for the larger screen, we might end up with expanded, pixelated apps as we have with the iPad. At least until developers catch up with the changes, if they decide to make the changes.
Retina on an iPad is drastically much more difficult than on the iPhone, people don’t understand that.
i like the current size its perfect not too bulky nor small, instead of a bigger screen, make bigger memory & faster processor no need for a 4 inch screen like the other… its just a waste.
The 4″ screen fits nicely in the already perfect size of the iphone if the Home button is removed which was talked about before.

I would prefer to stay with the 3.5 screen. It’s a perfect size for landscape typing. I used to have an iPhone 2G and now have a Nexus S. I almost always type in portrait because those keys are about the sane size.
4inch screen. Bout time. I hope digi times is right for once. I would definitely upgrade early if it where the case. My wifes work gave her the htc 4 incher and it looks great. Much better than the iPhone 4. Allthoigh the retina is clearer all around the 4 incher is awesome.
A 4″ screen with a Home button would be nice but I’d rather have 64 GB Storage and faster CPU
I wanted a 4″ screen for some time now. I was hoping for this in the iPhone 4. I’d love it in the iPhone 5. I think 4″ screen is the ideal screen size for me.
Don’t need a 4 inch screen. I like the size it is now. Not going to complain as long as the whole phone size doesn’t get bigger.
Hope not..if it’s gonna look like the picture on the right, it’s gonna be an ugly phone! I think better battery and no antenna problems should be the main focus of the engineers and designers..I don’t think in this case size matters..just quality.

Yes!!! It should be ok for me. I think it will be better than a hardware keyboard. I’d say that I’ll love it so much.
I think the screen on the 4 is fine the way it is. If they wanna better it, why not allow us to have the ability to fully customize it without having to jailbreak it or longer battery life. Bigger isn’t always better.

Nice photoshop, but fake. I can’t stand seeing a phone like this without any borders. If Apple wants to make a 4 inch screen, it is better off to make it a bit wider to do so.
4 inch will still be smaller than 4.3 of the Galaxy II
A bigger screen doesn’t mean a less appealing picture. Look at all 4.3″ screens that have a resolution of 800×480, those have a lower rez than i4 but still produce a great image.
No home button = no jailbreaking the old way (unless another JailbreakMe exploit can be found) = longer wait for a jalibreak.
Hopefully they could incorporate a larger screen without losing the home button. And I sure hope that it won’t be like the pic up there! LOL
Also if you look very carefully of the corners of the screen, you can definitely see that it’s made from photoshop or some sort of program that does it. As I mentioned before, if they do make it a 4 inch, better make the phone a bit wider. I hate to see the edge to edge on any phone. Never should there be an edge to edge phone.
Also I highly doubt they’ll get rid of the home button as it is a NEED on the phone. sure home button may not be needed on the ipad, but it is needed on the iphone.

Bigger screen doesn’t equal pain for developers. It’s the resolution that matters.
I don’t think apple would just increase the size if the screen. Then it would have less pixel density. Plus the phone wool have to be bigger. I personally like the small footprint of the iPhone. That’s one of the big features to me. It’s a small package with a lot of punch.
I think more likely could be apple stretching the screen to be actual widescreen; 16:9. Instead of the current strange ratio of 3:2. This would actually make the screen exactly the same width (portrait) but taller and would be 4 inches.
3:2 – 960×640 – 3″x2″, 3.6″ diag
16:9 – 1138×640 – 3.55″x2″, ~4.1″
But who knows. Stupid rumors.

The 3.5″ screen is fine for me. I like the overall form factor and size of the iphone 4. A bigger screen would be nice, but I wouldn’t want to compromise overall size of the phone.

It’s not the size that matters, it’s how you use it. I can use mine perfectly at 3.5″ and do not wish for a bigger screen nor edge to edge. As someone said before it would make it really hard to put a case on that doesn’t wrap over the edge a little.
Why not make a phone that you can change the battery. It would generate sales of spare battries and make the phone a lot more usable. I cant understand why Apple make products that have problems with battery usage and then make no effort to make the battery accessible

I have 3.75″screen ipad 4 and i dont think there would make much difference in 3.75″ to 4″screen untill and unless the features in both of them differs.Surely if the features of ipad 5 are better than ipad 4 i wil get one….
edge to edge screen = more accidental cracked screens = more lawsuits………. so i think apple should stay with 3.5″ screen.
Yes a 4 inch screen is needed or else apple will for sure start falling behind the times. Phones today r becoming our lifeline to the outside world. I use all tje features of my iphone and the 3.5 inch seems to be holding the phone back from an enjoyable media experience meaning movies internet browsing and so on … People who do not want the larger screen r most likley just using the phone as a phone and basic email and web browsing but for those of us that use the iphone for what it has to offer it is time for apple to realize that a larger screen is needed even if it means altering the size of the entire phone. I love apple products and only buy apple products but i have to say i used my friends samsung 4 inch to go online and it was much more enjoyable experience due only to the screen size.. For those of you that dont want the larger screen stay with the 4th gen its a great phone but for the rest of us who use the phone for what it is we need it so Dear Apple please put a larger screen on the iphone 5 ??? please ?????

Better on iphone 5 do a bluetooth so you can share/recieve music or photos/video with your friends on any phone!!! Not only on iphone. And about the screen i doesnt bother about the 4″ and the 3.5″ screen i’m ok with the 3.5″ screen
Wow its looking so nice and now its comes with latest features and i make a plan to replace my old iPhone 3.5 inches with new 4.0 inches..
lastest designs are perfect…but i will prefer i phone bluetooth transfer….the usage of good phone begins with bluetooth transfer..so i will appreciate if the lastest i phone carry bluetooth transfer….tnx
