Folks at iPhoneIslam Team claim that they have managed to hack iPad 3G to enable full phone and SMS functionality like the iPhone.
iPhoneIslam Team has previously released jailbreak tweaks like FaceIt-3GS that brought FaceTime - Apple's video calling feature to iPhone 3GS.
iPhoneIslam Team has provided the following details about PhoneItiPad, which will turn the iPad 3G into an iPhone:
A hack that will change the game. Can you imagine trun your iPad to a fully functional phone.
WIth No Speical Hardware all what you need is Jailbroken iPad 3G and your iPad 3G will do anything you expect from iPhone... Phone Calls, SMS, FaceTime by Phone Number... ETC

iPhoneIslam haven’t provided a release date for PhoneItiPad, but have mentioned that they'll release PhoneItiPad on Cydia very soon.
Though we don’t fancy the idea of using the iPad as a phone, it’s pretty amazing that they have managed to hack an iPad to make calls, send SMS etc.

Wow, this is amazing. I’ve read that it was impossible to make such a hack into iPad but iphoneIslam managed to make it. Great job indeed, impressive.
But wait, how is the billing gonna be? Usually in my country iPad data plan is just giving 50GB or Unlimited data plan at a few bucks per month. So if this function is possible in the iPad, then how do the mobile operator gonna charge us later on?
im guessing his using a normal sim-card you would use in a phone and just cut it into a mini-sim, but i gotta admit that text feature would be awsome

+ you shouldn’t devalue someone else’s accomplishments just because you have no immediate use for them. I’m sure thousands of people do.
Talkatone uses Google Voice so it’s only available in US and Canada.
With this hack anyone, anywhere in the world with a SIM card can make calls and text.
I don’ t think you can make a call with your ipad 3G sim card since you don’t have a phone line, only data. I bet you will need to use your iphone sim card. So might as well just use your iphone to make the call.
I dont think you saw the video that’s the whole point use your sim
There are no differences between phone sim card and data sim card. They are both sim card that allow both voice and data.
and as for micro-sim, it’s just the same as regular sim card. you can cut you regular sim card to make it micro-sim.
I have a twin card in my iPad as most of my friends & colleques. Will be useful, especially to be able to send SMS.
But must of course have a jailbreak for ipad2 to start with
it’s a nice hack…well, it will also be nice if iphoneislam.com will come in english as well.
just get line 2 and you get the phone plus the sms. no jailbreak required.

Awesome! If you have prepaid data bundles, you can now top up using your ipad instead of putting sim into an iphone or having to go online to top up the card

Why not just use Line2…. I get calls and SMS both on my ipad 2 already.
Hopefully it will support the iPad 2 soon with the new jailbreak. Looks really good.
