Apple May Launch iOS Powered Television This Fall?

Apple Television

DailyTech reports that a former Apple executive has revealed that Apple plans to launch an Apple branded television powered by iOS as early as this fall.

According to DailyTech’s source:

“You’ll go into an Apple retail store and be able to walk out with a TV. It’s perfect.”

DailyTech reports:

According to source Apple plans to “blow Netflix and all those other guys away” by bundling Apple TV + iTunes inside physical television sets. According to the source Apple is teaming up with a major supplier (our guess would be Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (SEO:005930)), to provide the physical televisions, which will be rebranded as Apple television sets.

This is not the first time we are hearing rumors and speculations of Apple planning to make its own television. Back in 2009, there were reports about this possibility including a report from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Muster who thought this was a distinct possibility.

Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White also reported in April this year that Apple could launch “Smart TV” – an Apple branded Television as early as this year, based on the data points he picked up at a China electronics trade show.

According to the former Apple executive, Apple could launch the iOS powered television this fall or could get delayed to next year, given Apple’s “high standards”.

Checkout the mockup of what an Apple branded Television may look like below:

An iOS powered television could mean a television set with built-in Apple TV, which allows iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users to use their iOS device as a remote control and also as the second screen.

What do you think? Will you go into an Apple Retail store and buy a Apple branded television? Let us know in the comments.

Most def. The iPad 2 is $600 for 9.5 inch screen. It will probley cost $1300 for a 26 inch tv. That’s crap.

AND I think you are being conservative on your estimate 🙂 …. think of that Cinema display or whatever it is, isn’t that like $3000 for a 29 inch ?

I want a apple tv box that’s more like a google tv box!

    • Eric

What are you talking about I have an Apple TV and a google TV and the google TV interface suck (at least for now). They need to have apps.

Now if apple makes a tv with apple tv intergrated in it, I hope they open an app store for it. (and their apple tv)

I heard that the android market is coming to the google tv.
I don’t really believe it. But can you imagine angry birds on a 42 inch tv?!

    • josemir da silva

Yeah I get it, i am with you. IF at least Apple TV had safari in it , then it would be perfect

  • BBkiller

I think they are wasting there time with this TV. I can hook my MacBook, iPhone, ATV, all to my current tv. Why would anyone need an Apple TV and what could it do that can not be done with what I got now. They are just trying to find a way to get more money out of us. If anything they should be working on making there current products even better in my opion.

    • SirLancaster

That’s business. Of course they want to get more money out of us.

Im not wasting money on a Apple TV. I can hook my MacBook Pro, iPhone, ipad and my ATV, to my current tv. Apple TV are just trying to find ways to get more money out of us. its just a joke

“You’ll go into an Apple retail store and be able to walk out with a TV. It’s perfect.”

oh please….. get a life. Or at least get out a bit more.

Funny thing is Apple will probably sue every TV manufucturer (Samsung take note!) because your TV’s look like iTV’s (a name they wont be able to use) lol

  • John

I can see the maturity level of posters here. Come on, criticizing a company over rumors? How about we wait until such a product materializes first. If you like it, then buy it. If not, then buy something else. Apple’s not forcing anyone to use their products. They sell well because people actually like them. Anyone who buys a product they’re not satisfied with is a fool.

With that said, I wouldn’t buy an apple tv simply because I have no need for one. I’ll continue to sport my VIZIO for as long as it continues to work.

  • Joe

    iTV anyone?

  • Shalashaska

Now I’m sorry… But this is just ubsurd..even though I see a lot of people buying this just to feel pseudo rich..I think they’ll carry the remote everywhere so everyone will know they have an apple itv lool…but u can bet ure shoes that it’ll probably be a samsung tv is disguise ..I wish they make an apple fridge thaw u need to activate through iTunes and jailbreak it so u can store berries lol

  • fas

I would stand in line to get one 🙂

  • fas

On second thought, it will have Retina Display!

  • josemir da silva

The only way this will not flop is IF (and it is possible) this TV is something out of this world. something that is a full iOS device, with apps, app store, and so on. Still would be the same as plugging the iPad into a TV… so I am not sure….

  • Jai

Sooner or later APple will be making everything for your personal life….I must say, there products are always intuitive

  • Hasnofaith

How is this a threat to Netflix?

  • jussayin

the thing is with apple is they always seem to come up with a product that you never knew you wanted, then you see it and you do, so lets think a little harder about what would be bundled with this tv, internet apps recorder…. and probably knowing apple some other goodies too.

  • Paradox

I am so so on the iTV. I am waiting more for the iDishwasher and iWasher and iDryer coming next summer. Then we can truly see the Apple vision.

You know what eventually is coming around the year 2034 right? Yup, you guess it, an iHouse.
Better hurry up Apple before “Homedroid” is released by Google.
