Based on previous lag times between unveiling and releasing a new iPhone or iPad, we had predicted last week that if Apple unveils iPhone 5 at a media event on October 4th (which was a rumor at that time) then it could be available as early as October 13th or October 14th.
It looks like we’re probably going to be right. Earlier today, Apple announced that it will be unveiling iPhone 5 at a media event on October 4th. Japanese site Macotakara, which in the past has provided accurate details about upcoming Apple product launches, claims that Apple may launch iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S or both on October 14th in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan.
The Next Web also reports that they’re hearing that Apple will launch iPhone 5 on October 14th:
We have been told by a reliable source that you should expect to be able to line up and purchase your next iPhone on Friday, October 14th. [..]
[..] Incidentally, we’re also hearing that the release of iOS 5 will come a couple of days before, on October 12th.
We’ve also heard that Apple has been quietly denying vacation requests for employees during the second week of October, indicating that Apple may be preparing for the hugely anticipated iPhone 5 launch.
Here’s previous lag-times between unveiling and releasing a new iPhone or iPad.
- The first iPhone was released 171 days after it was unveiled.
- iPhone 3G was released after 32 days.
- iPhone 3GS after 11 days
- iPad 1 after 66 days
- iPhone 4 after 17 days
- And iPad 2 just after 9 days
If you don’t live in United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan and wondering when it will be available in your country then the good news is that the waiting time is rumored to be considerably shorter this time. We expect iPhone 5 to be available in most countries before the start of the holiday shopping season.
The Next Web also reports that iOS 5 will be released on October 14th for current hardware:
Incidentally, we’re also hearing that the release of iOS 5 will come a couple of days before, on October 12th.
Previous reports have suggested that iOS 5 could be released on October 10th.
Anyways, coming back to the iPhone 5 launch, if it will be available from October 14th then Apple will probably begin accepting iPhone 5 pre-orders immediately after next week’s media event.
