With just few minutes to go for iOS 5 launch, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team has revealed that they plan to bundle the ability to create custom iOS firmware file to preserve the iPhone baseband in Redsn0w – their popular tool instead of launching the PwnageTool for iOS 5.
If you were hoping that the jailbreak community will figure out a way to enable Siri – Apple’s revolutionary new intelligent personal assistant, which is exclusively available only on the iPhone 4S, to other iOS devices then we have some bad news. MuscleNerd has revealed that based on initial analysis it may not be possible to port Siri to the iOS devices without piracy:
(only way to extract Siri files from iPhone4S filesystem without pirating is to have the main FS keys, requiring low-level exploit)
Anyone hoping for a “port” of Siri from iPhone4S: pending a very low-level A5 exploit, it likely can’t be done without piracy 🙁
If piracy is the only solution then it is unlikely to come from the Dev team.
Here’s MuscleNerd’s tweet about bundling the PwnageTool functionality in Redsn0w:
We’re adding most popular PwnageTool usage into redsn0w (for Windows+Mac). First up: removing BB update
MuscleNerd has also tweeted the following screenshot of the updated Reds0w with the “Custom IPSW” feature.
MuscleNerd has also advised users who want to unlock their iPhones using Ultrasn0w (those who have preserved their baseband) to wait for them to release a new version of Ultrasn0w for iOS 5:
Any iOS 4.x.x or lower device where ultrasn0w works, also works in iOS5 (even iPad BB on 3GS). But *please wait* for our update!
