MuscleNerd, member of the iPhone Dev team has just announced that they will release Ultrasn0w for iOS 5 after an update for MobileSubstrate is released tomorrow.
Dev team has already released Redsn0w for iOS 5 for Mac, which includes the PwnageTool functionality and iH8sn0w had released Snowbreeze for Windows that allows users to preserve iPhone's baseband while upgrading to iOS 5.
MuscleNerd tweeted few minutes back:
will coordinate ultrasn0w iOS5 compatibility update to come out *after* a planned MobileSubstrate update tomorrow
Please note that we're assuming that Dev team will release it as soon as MobileSubstrate is released, but it is possible that it is released a little later.
Ultrasn0w currently supports the following basebands 01.59.00 (iPhone 4), baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00 (iPhone 3GS). We don't expect it to support latest basebands such as 04.11.08 (iPhone 4) or baseband 05.16.05 (iPhone 3GS) that comes bundled with iOS 5 that was released yesterday. Note: You can find your iPhone’s baseband by going to Settings –> About –> Modem Firmware
So Ultrasn0w for iOS 5 will be useful only for users who have iPhones with the older basebands mentioned above, unless Dev team has a surprise for us.

its more than a year since baseband 02.10.04 for iPhone 4 had been released and still no progress. they should have reported that this baseband and up is impossible to unlock. waited more than a year for this but no news

Yes it is but you better create custim ipsw without the baseband update and upgrade you device using you custom in orden to keep your baseband

This sucks, i have a factory unlocked iphone 4 on 4.3.1 and i heard rumours that updating to ios 5 might lock my phone and on top of that i am on an unlockable baseband.
That’s not possible, if you’ve a factory unlocked iPhone that is. Software updates don’t lock it.
Let us know where you came across this and we will have it verified as it just doesn’t seem right.
There were some discussions in apple.com about factory unlocked iphones becoming locked after updating to 4.3.3. Just to let you know i also jailbroke my iphone 4 with cydia. So can i restore it with ios 5 and still be able to use the factory unlock?

Agreed! WTF cares about unlock anymore? iPhone is on 3 networks now. All but tmobile, which has like 5 customers.
UNTETHERED JB for IOS5 should be the primary focus. iPhones with tehtered JB is useless and too risky.
Over 1 million tmobile users using unlocked iPhones.
And anyways I0n1c claims he already has the untethered jailbreak ready.

I care about the unlock. I’m one of the T-mobile users with my iPhone 4. So right now the Updated unlock and UNtethered JB are my main focus.
