Steve Jobs Has Passed Away

With great sadness we have to report that Apple's visionary co-founder and ex-CEO, Steve Jobs has passed away.

Apple has put up a page with the following message:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

If you would like to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences, please email rememberingsteve@apple.com

Steve Jobs' family has issued the following statement:

Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.

Tim Cook has sent the following email to employees:

Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

US President Barack Obama has issued the following statement:

Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft:

I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.

Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.

The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.

For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg

Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.

We have no words to describe how we are feeling at the loss, it's a sad day for us. Our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and his colleagues. He will be greatly missed.

      Here’s to the Crazy One.

The misfit. The rebel. The troublemaker. The round peg in the square hole.

The One Who Saw Things Differently.

He wasn’t fond of rules. And he had no respect for the status quo.

You can quote him, disagree with him, glorify or vilify him. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore him. Because he changed things.

He pushed the human race forward. And while some may have seen him as the crazy one, we saw genius.

Because the man who was crazy enough to think he could change the world, was the one who did.
Just bought an Steve Jobs Action figure here, http://www.slickdoor.com/_p2999.html

This is the thing I can do to miss him

He changed the world and affected nearly everyone in it. If that’s not greatness, I don’t know what is. You will be greatly missed, Steve. I hope the ones you left in charge of Apple can carry on your legacy with half as much grace and insight as you did.

    Sad day :(

Its time to shut this site down. As SJ passed away iPhones will no longer be A Piece of Art. So no meaning wasting time on JB or unlocking a piece of junk, ergo nullifies need of this site. We loved the CatnMouse game while it lasted. Its really really really hard to say, but Steve you will be missed.

    • Your Momma says:

Oh come on. Jobs built an incredible foundation on which Apple can stand for years to come. He didn’t just pull some guy off the street to run Apple. He chose his close friend and someone who he has been mentoring for years. Jobs shared his vision with those closest to him. Apple will continue to be great just as Jobs knew it would when he saw his death coming from afar years ago when he was first diagnosed with cancer.

I’m a senior in high school and I’ve written many reports and articles about Steve Jobs. I truly love Apple with all my heart and I am also saddened to see a man of such integrity and poise gone. I feel like I’ve known Steve for all my life and all his because of the information I know about it. All the way from when he was a kid, to when he resigned as CEO of Apple. Because I know this, I feel I have lost a great friend although I never knew him on a personal level.

    R.I.P. Steven Paul Jobs

    • I feel the same way. My very first computer was the Apple IIe. I’ve followed his visions through out his career and feel like I’ve known him all of my life.

A Man among men has joined the greatest there ever was……the world has a loss that can not be filled….you will be missed..rip

    • Wite Boy says:

lol his inventions arent even close to what edison gave the world. come on

    • Your Momma says:

He absolutely deserves to be mentioned among the greatest inventors throughout history. Think for a moment about what Steve Jobs created with the Apple II, iPod, and iPhone. Entirely new ways to store, compute and access data. And not only did he invent new methods of data access, he made them extremely functional and user friendly. He understood the human thought process…which is why he made tools so easy for humans to interact with.

He was one of the greatest geniuses this world has ever seen. He explored, he expanded the horizons of how we transmit and relay information. He revolutionized telecommunications as well as the music industry…just for starters.

    • Joe's Spleen says:

Did you really compare a businessman who made computers in China to to the man who’s theories made the very concept of a world war — the kind western civilization had been subjected to for centuries — such a terrifying idea it is now unthinkable? Really? It took OSX to make Mac’s usable (and it’s a ripoff of Linux) and iOS to make their cell phones usable (Android was around 4 years before the iPhone, for those of you who don’t know). Please do not compare a bloody cell phone to the Theory of General Relativity. Hyperbole much?

He also sent thousands of manufacturing jobs overseas to factories (I laughed when I saw an Occupy Wall Street memorial to him) so horrible they had to install nets to stop workers from killing themselves. He also had a really poor track record for charitable giving (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, anyone?) and was a horrible family man.

Edison, however, is a much closer analogy. Both good inventors, but more importantly brilliant businessmen with the occasional flop (I don’t see a DC wire coming into my house, nor do I use a Lisa, Newton or Pippin)

Jobs was a great businessman who attracted a cult following for his products. He hired the best and brightest to design his products with very easy-to-use features, and he marketed them extremely well. And he also took a cast-off from George Lucas and made it a billion-dollar Disney empire, cranking out some awesome family films which will stand the test of time.

  22. Dan Bradley says:

I am a designer and photographer and Steve Jobs has revolutionized many aspects of my life and work that I utilize every day. You sir, will surely be missed. It is a real shame, such a young age for a brilliant man who had so much to offer this world. Ironic that most of the word is finding out about the death of Steve Jobs probably on a device that he had created. Wrap your head around that, he is a legend and changed the world forever.

  23. Victor says:

    RIP :(
    Send from IPhone

  24. K20DC2R says:

Apple products will continue to grow in popularity everyday, mainly because they listrn to the cult like customers…we will help create the iPhones of the future, and apple will be our resource….and with Jobs knowledge he has left, the possibilities are endless.

I think Apple should make a limited edition macbook pro on memory of Steve. RIP our friend, you will be missed.

Enjoy your time with jesus, steve.

Btw, i’m wondering what if bill gates is dead? Any idea?

    • Dan Bradley says:

Bill Gates could die twice and no one would care, everything about windows is a mess.

    • jhfire says:

No actually, Bill Gates is saving African children with his billions of dollars he is making each day. He is still living well. By you asking that question, it just makes you ignorant. Also, Bill Gates doesn’t run Microsoft anymore, that is why Vista sucked. Thought I would throw that in there.

  48. Melvarius says:

I respect all his achievements he was a truly visionary individual.

Apple will no doubt miss him, but will no doubt be grinning like the preverbial cheshire cat as they have just been handed the greatest free marketing tool they could ever have hoped for.

    QUOTE
“im definitely buy a 4S in his memory”
    UNQUOTE

in fact the synical side of me thinks it might just explain the delay in releasing the new devices. they have been known to be rather “predictable” with their release dates in the past.

It will be interesting to watch how apple now conducts itself. Now that it doesn’t have mr jobs to answer to.

R.I.P. mr jobs lets hope you chose your successor wisely.
