Apple Pulls iMAME – Free Arcade Machine Emulator For iPhone And iPad From App Store

If you’ve managed to download iMAME – a free MAME emulator for iPhone and iPad then count yourself lucky as it is no longer available in the App Store.

MAME – Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator is a popular arcade machine emulator that can run arcade games with images of the original arcade game’s ROM and disk data.

iMAME brought this popular arcade machine emulator to the iPhone and iPad preloaded with 9 ROMs. It also allowed users to easily add ROMs using iExplorer.

However, developer of iMAME Jim VanDeventer had mentioned that the iOS emulator had not been officially endorsed by Nicola Salmoria or the MAME Team, so it was expected that Apple would remove it from the App Store any moment.

That’s exactly what has happened. Our reader – Chocogow has commented that the app is no longer available in the App Store yesterday. If you click on the direct App Store link, you get the “Your request could not be completed” error message. It looks like Apple got a take down request from either Nicola Salmoria or the MAME Team, which probably forced it to remove the app from the App Store.

It will be interesting to see if VanDeventer releases the MAME emulator in Cydia for jailbroken iOS device users.

Thanks Chocogow for the tip!
