While iPhone Dev team released a new version of Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 that allows iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and iPad 1, Chronic Dev released a jailbreak app called Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether.
Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether allows users whose iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPad 1 is on a tethered jailbreak to magically convert into a untethered jailbreak so that they no longer need to tether their devices to a computer to reboot them.
Chronic dev team provides the following information about the Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether jailbreak app:
this package will allow your 5.0.1 device to install pod2g’s untethered exploits and reboot without requiring an external tool like redsn0w or sn0wbreeze, and without having to restore your device (so you get to keep all your apps, contacts, etc).
Update: Please note a number of readers have reported that they're having issues with iBooks after using this method.
Here's a step by step guide to convert your tethered iOS 5.0.1 into a untethered jailbreak. Please note that as the name suggests Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether only works on iOS 5.0.1.
- Launch Cydia
- Then tap on the Search tab
- Search for Corona
- Select Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether from the search results
- Then tap on the Install button
- Then tap on the Confirm button
That's it, you should now be able to safely reboot your iOS device.
If you haven't jailbroken your iOS device then you need to use Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 released by the iPhone Dev team. Not working for me ( iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 ) + semitether … Keeps telling “SIZE MISMATCH” … Removing semitether doesn`t help also =(((
Any ideas ? I know I can still run redsnow but now I`m @ work with strict connection policy, can`t verify phone while jailbreak or JUST BOOT TETHERED. =/ I think I have to try it when I get at home =(

its not for 4s read the other 3 post prior to this. Corona is only if it is already jailbroken.
Seems to be working just fine on my wife’s iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1 previously an untethered jailbreak. This saves a lot of time. Thanks to all involved.
Sorry I meant previously a tethered jailbreak and now in untethered. Everything is working as it should xcept iBooks but that was expected.

Check if you have Big boss repo added, then :
Cydia > Changes > Refresh… Wait until it downloads and reloads newest packages. Then search again, should be visible now.
yep i do but seems just wasnt there yet i just rechecked and reloaded cydia and it was there….guess my system didnt fully update

I followed all the instruction but when i install corona it comes :
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
sub-process / usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
When i press return to cydia. It says :
Half – Installed Package , allowing me to choose Ignore (temporary) OR Forcibly Clear.

I’m too having this problem, are you also useing a 3gs? i’m getting the error: ‘error getting required file for applying patch’ and then the two red errors that you’ve named above. If you find a fix would you please post on here, cheers.
mine was like that but i fixed it i think, go back to redsn0w after having having the half installed package and unclick the cydia installation and let it reboot your phone and go back to cydia and reinstall Corona.. im pretty sure mine worked.

Simply wait for Cydia to complete loading. Then search and you will magically see it.
I can confirm that this works on iPhone 4 on verzion and at&t.thank you pod 2 g and the development team best Christmas gift so far and just so you know I never doubted you guys and i was always patient because a tethere jailbreak was good enough for me cuz I always had my charger and I knew how to use just boot on redsnow so I don’t know why so many people were crying and trying to rush you guys and especially those haters that have no respect for you guys but you still delivered it and made my day and I knew u would thank you

I couldn’t find the tweak at the beginning, but after I upgraded cydia, i was able to find Corona 5.0.1 Untethered. Installation was successful and I reboot my device and it worked!

After I typed Corona in the search tap int he Cydia , nothing shows up. Any reasons why? I’m using iPod Touch 4G.
Worked fantastic on my Rogers iPhone 4. I am having the iBooks issue… Assuming the issue is the “configuration error…” message and failing to login to sync with other devices. Would it screw things up to uninstall and reinstall iBooks? Luckily it’s not something I use much.
So you need to access Cydia to do this?

When I try to search corona ios 5 cydia won’t find
jailbreak is working very good. reboots without any issues …. but …. Is anyone else having a very sluggish music player? I don’t know if its iCloud hanging up, or the music player, but its acting like their is a huge memory leak. I even rebooted and tried … still very slow to launch, and slow to take commands. Like the whole system is under a ton of lag. Just the music player .. everything else is loading fine.
Any ideas?

I deleted semi tether before doing corona and it worked. their may be some conflict if you do it the other way around that is causing issues for people. You may just have to start from scratch and do a regular jailbreak again.

For the peeps trying to untether with corona, and cant find it in search, just go under Cydia > Changes > Refresh… and believe me after refreshing four times it finally downloaded the new packages
Corona does not work with semi tether, that info was posted in the release! Undo or redo. Corona worked flawlessly. Now I can reboot.. Not that I ever need to anyway..
i’m currently running on iOS 5.0 on my i4 with a tethered JB. can i just update to 5.0.1 using the phone update software and JB using the new Redsn0w? thanks a lot.
after rebooting, using itunes back up the iphone and it works!!!
I have an iPhone 4 on 5.0.1, jailbreak with sn0wbreeze using Gevey. Corona worked fine and gevey is also working but something I think is missing coz gevey say “no simcard installed” after a couple of minutes.

Im rockin a iPhone 4 with a 1.59.00 BB, i used Sn0wbreeze to tether JB on 5.0.1 then used Corona to untether it and its working fine as far as the untether goes, but im having trouble with the repos!!! Maybe its cuz alot of ppl are running them in!!! Other than that it works great!!! BIG shouts to Pod2g all da way frm Louisiana!!! #GoTigers
If you’re having trouble finding Corona, just open your app killer and if cydia is working in the background, just simply kill cydia and go on cydia again and it will load the new packages including Corona Untether. I just downloaded Corona and it works wonderfully on my Ipod Touch 4G THANK YOU SO MUCH!

As mentioned in above posts Corona ios 5.01 will convert a tethered into untethered but Corona IOS only works on IOS 5.0.1 as far as i think, but I am having tethered IOS 4.2.1, So how should i upgrade to untethered IOS 5.0.1. Please help me out, I am desperate to upgrade my Iphone to 5 OS. Please Help me out
if your still on ios 4.2.1 do an offical upgrade though itunes to ios 5.0.1 and use the Redsn0w 0.9.10b1. watch the video for instructions. and fyi if your ios 4.2.1 u can use greenpois0n to get an untethered. but ios 5.0.1 is the way to go

everything seems to be ok. except for my safari and ibooks. and for all users that cant find it. you have to wait for cydia to download new packages. if you havent let it load in a long time it may take awhile. it took me 15 mins to download releases and packages. so be paient its worth it. just wish they would fix the issue with safari and ibooks

Hi, so im looking forward to update my iphone 4, which has a 4.3.3 version and a baseband 04.10.01 which I unlock using a gevey sim, my question is will this jailbreak work for me if I preserve baseband?
in other words gevey sim would still work after upgrading (preserving baseband) and jailbreaking???

When I try and load Corona 5.1 it says that it Cannot Comply, I am using Redsn0w, and also many of my apps in Cydia aren’t working. Saying it needs to wait for a reply from the vendor. Do I need to reboot through Redsn0w multiple times before this is going to work for me?
