According to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, Apple will launch the next generation iPad in 3 to 4 months.
OEM production of iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 but decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads, the sources noted.
According to DigiTimes’ sources in the supply chain, the production of the new iPads is expected to reach 9.5-9.8 million units in the first quarter of 2012.
Apple is expected to launch the third generation iPad with Retina Display towards the end of March or early April based on the yearly product cycle. To get some perspective: the Wi-Fi version of the original iPad went on sale in the United States on April 3, 2010, while iPad 2 has been available for purchase since March 11, 2011.
So March-April timeframe is good guesstime for the availability of iPad 3. However, according to one analyst, the next iPad will be available in February.
