Ever since the jailbreak dream team released the Absinthe jailbreak and the Redsn0w CLI tool, some users have been complaining about white or blank icons on their home screen after successfully jailbreaking their iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
The issue seems to be mostly affecting stock iPhone apps such as Mail, Safari etc. Until now, the temporary fix for the problem was to respring the Springboard.
iDB has just reported that a jailbreak tweak called iWipe Cache available available in Cydia should fix the issue permanently.
Though the description of the app indicates that the jailbreak tweak fixes Winterboard problems, iDB's Sebastien reports that it has fixed the white or bank icon issue that he was facing on his iPhone 4S.
Meanwhile, one of iDB's reader recommends using iRetiner GUI to fix the issue:
For jailbroken apps I have always used iWipe Cache......I set an Activator action (Icon spread) to launch the app, and it works most of the time...print 99% of the time any way.
For stock apps I use and app from Cydia called "iRetiner GUI". It has an option in the "options" tab to fix whit/blank stock icons and it works literally every time, and at the same time can make you none-retina app store apps into retina icon.
But I highly recommend iRetiner GUI for blank/white stock iPhone apps.
So give iWipe Cache or iRetiner GUI a shot and let us know, which one fixes the problem.

The white icons that I get are the Adsheet, Setup, FieldTest and another one that I can’t remeber. These pop up every once in a while on my springboard, reboot or respring works but they come back. I have no problems with stock apps or any others.
I put them in a folder but then the folder disappeared and so far they haven’t come back……..
Since I use a summerbord theame with winter board I don’t get white icons anymore
keeps happening on my iPad 2 safari icon
well i had to restore my iphone 3g to stock because my 3g data service wouldnt work nothing would load up i had to forcely have a wifi connection enebled can anybidy tell me if that has been fixed in this version i have a sprint iphone 4s running 5.0.1
this for iphone 4s or ipad2 you shouldnt be using absinthe with an iphone 3g in the 1st place…

this is the problem i have as well. these are the icons I get, addsheet, fieldtest, ios diagnostics, and setup. they appear when i delete any app that was downloaded from the app store and do disappear when i respring or use icache. when opening field test, it opens a file like explore with tabs such as mm info, umts cell environment, gsm cell environment, pdp context list. ios diagnostics brings up the “by tapping send you agree that apple may collect diagnostic data from this device” bla bla bla. Setup icon brings up the “start using this iphone” button screen from initial setup process. Addsheet does nothing.
What about photo do not show up in photo ?
An now it will not connect to the apple store . My iPhone will the iPad will not . All I need from the jailbreak is the autofill eraser from big boss wish this was in apple store
This is by no means a perm. Fix… Its nice to know that you can just use an app but should we really have to. They should make a fix along with a Cydia fix. Sometimes i have to reboot my Phone just to install a Cydia App which should never happen.
sort of unrelated but when i jail broke my 4s on 5.0.1, all of my data was retained except my pictures and my ‘other’ section was over 2.5 gigs! blahhh help
@Angel, I got my pictures back by doing a soft restore :
Go to Setting – General – Restore – restore all settings
This only works if you have backed up your pictures in iCloud !!! Or iTunes
@you and @crow. I get the same icons after installing apps from Cydia and they disappear after respringing.
It seems Cydia does not do proper cleaning and leave these these icons around.
What about edit photos on on windows7 from iPhone 4s….does anyone have any suggestion?
‘Fix User Dir Permissions’ in SBSettings worked for me. Haven’t had a white icon for a week.
Just got a white icon, this didn’t fix.
Now you can get rid of the white icons after jailbreaking your device,
Step 1 : open cydia,
Step 2 : Go to Manage tab : press setting on you left hand side,
Step 3 : select Devoloper from the menu
Step 4 : search for ” libhide” then Reinstall it.

Hey Im using iPhone 4s Iso 5.0.1 after jailbreaking I don’t have Siri anymore how do I fix this Plz help..
i JB my 4s and it worked well for a few days.. i downloaded “motion” w/c make your icons move and then i downloaded ” speed intensifier” it worked when i respring it… but when i made the speed slower and resping it again. my 4s just stuck on the apple logo… then after a couple of hours it keeps on restarting every couple of seconds… you could see the lock screen for 5 to 7 seconds then it will restart again and load for 14 to 16 seconds back to lock screen it keeps doing it….
really need help bad!!!!
Same issue on uninstalling apps. Reboot to safe mode and continual resprings from there. Reinstalled the jailbreak
Third 4s I’ve this problem with. Sometimes it happens the first day I install the jb and sometimes it lasts for a few weeks with no problems. Also, strange problems with some AppStore apps…Netflix won’t stream but works in safe mode, mms won’t send, connectivity issues. All fixed with a fresh jb but I know the problems will eventually return. 2 sprint 4s and 1 AT&T 4s. Post if you find a fix, but I assume it’s a cost of exploitation. lol
