Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether Updated to Fix iBooks DRM Issue

Jay Freeman a.k.a saurik - founder and developer of Cydia has just released a new version Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether jailbreak (v1.0-7) to fix the DRM iBooks issue.

iPhone Dev team had released a new version of Redsn0w - Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 yesterday that included a fix for the iBooks DRM issue. But the Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether update that is available on Cydia is an easier option.

Saurik announced the availability of Corona iOS 5.0.1 on Twitter:

Corona 1.0-6: @planetbeing put a lot of work into solving iBooks image loading bugs. All users (however jailbroken) on 5.0.1 should install.

However, there was some dependency issue, which he soon corrected and released Corona 1.0-7.

iPhone Dev team had provided the following details about the fix:

@planetbeing wrote a utility called “crazeles” that overcomes jailbreak detection by iBooks that would cause about 10% of images to show incorrectly.  This fix is similar to the “hunnypot” fix that @comex wrote for the 4.x jailbreak.

Saurik has recommended all users (except for iPhone 3GS with older bootrom) who have jailbroken their iOS device, which includes iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (except for iPhone 3GS with older bootrom), iPad 2, iPad 1, iPod touch 3rd gen, iPod touch 4th gen to install the latest version of Corona 5.0.1 jailbreak from Cydia. So it basically means that it doesn't matter if you've used Absinthe jailbreak or Redsn0w to jailbreak your iOS device, one can install the Corona 1.0-7 jailbreak.

Please note that it is always a good idea to take a backup of your iOS device before proceeding as a number of users  have reported issues after installing previous Corona jailbreak updates.

If the iBooks DRM issue doesn't bother you then we would suggest holding off updating to the new version until you see positive feedback in the comments.

Update 1:

We installed Corona 1.0-7 on an iPhone 4S jailbroken using Absinthe jailbreak and iPod touch 4G using Redsn0w. We didn't hit any issue on the iPod touch 4G. However, iPhone 4S initially went into safe mode after installing the update. Things have been fine after rebooting the iPhone again.

Update 2:

Saurik has released another update for Corona 5.0.1 Untether (v1.0-8) to fix issues with iPhone 4S running iOS 5.

Corona 1.0-8: @sbingner noticed that 1.0-6/7 failed on iPhone 4S 5.0 (the only supported 5.0 build; absinthe's Corona had worked): fixed. :(

I have a newer bootrom 3Gs (xx015-15th week of 2010) that is fully functional WITHOUT Corona using the custom ipsw on a Redsn0w jailbreak. I can reboot and everything is super stable with mobile substrate and ultrasn0w. What is Corona for?

    • JD says:

Ok, now the older bootroom xx942 (in between 40 and 45) is TETHERED and requires redsn0w boot to work Cydia and jb apps. What gives???

      • JD says:

Corona worked like a charm on my xx942 serial ATT 3GS. Weird that my 2010 model didn’t require it and the 2009 model did. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Ok, let me get this straight. My iPhone 4S [5.0.1] which was jailbroken with absinthe v0.2 needs this “Corona 5.0.1 Untether (v1.0-8)” in order to fix the iBooks DRM issue?

you can not use tmobile sim card on iphone 4 ios 5.0.1 without having a PRESERVE baseband of 4.10.1 or lower anything higher then that u will not be able to unlock yet. if u do have this PRESERVE baseband or lower you can unlock with a gevey ultra sim. hope this helps
